Chapter “LUQMAAN”- (LUQMAN) - 31
‘A-‘uu-zu Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah
from Satan the outcast)
Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يَشْتَرِى لَهْوَ ٱلْحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَيَتَّخِذَهَا هُزُوًا أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ 6 وَإِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَٰتُنَا وَلَّىٰ مُسْتَكْبِرًا كَأَن لَّمْ يَسْمَعْهَا كَأَنَّ فِىٓ أُذُنَيْهِ وَقْرًا فَبَشِّرْهُ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ 7
6. And of mankind is he
who payeth for mere pastime of discourse, that he may mislead from Allah’s
Way without knowledge, and maketh it the butt of mockery. For such there is a
shameful doom.
7. And when Our
Revelations are recited unto him he turneth away in pride as if he heard them
not, as if there were a deafness in his ears. So give him tidings of a
painful doom.

6. Wa minannaasi
many-yashtarii
lahwal-hadiisi liyuzilla ‘an
SabiiLillaahi bigayri ‘ilminw-wa
yatta-khizahaa huzuwaa. ‘Ulaaa-‘ika
lahum ‘Azaabum-muhiin.
7. Wa ‘izaa
tutlaa ‘alayhi ‘aayaatuNaa
wallaa mustakbiran ka-‘allam
yasma’-haa ka-‘anna fiii
‘uzunayhi waqraa. Fabash-shirhu bi-‘Azaabin- ‘aliim.

Commentary
The mankind had to escape from wasting-time, needless matters
and the matters of amusement, and listen to such matters in which there would
have been advantages for them. Commandments of this kind have been mentioned in
Holy Qur’an. But there are some such people who do not have any interest
in the verses of Holy Qur’an. They have become accustomed of Novels,
useless tales, fables, dancing, singing and noise. They like only timely
exhilarating and amusement. In Arab also, there were some such kind of people.
They used to hear praises of themselves and their folks from their poets and
used to be glad. In their poetry, there was nothing but showing just pride,
manifesting absurd desires and boasting.
When Holy Qur’an made them to hear useful matters and
taught them to take warning from the circumstances of ancient people, then some
of them did not like it and began to say: He (grace, glory, blessings and peace
be upon him) has made our taste brittle. They said to the people: Discourses of
Qur’an are tasteless. Neither there is any flavor in its hearing and nor
interest. If there is any need of hearing tales, we cause you to hear more than
it wonderful legends. After saying this, they purchased and brought stories of
wars and battles of Persians and their Kings, and tales of mutual competitions
between athletes.
