(Section 2)

Commentary

Laa  tusa’-‘ir – (Do not turn), it is a word of command in negative sentence from the word tas-‘iir, which means “Do not talk scornfully (with the people)!

It is commanded: Luqman caused to understand his son: O my dear son! You should offer prayer always regularly, enjoin the people constantly concerning that what is right, and forbid them from doing wrong, and be patient over that distress or grief what befalls you and endure silently.

These are such works; by which the strength and stability of self determination and courage becomes manifest. You should neither talk scornfully with the people, nor turn your cheek in contempt toward them and nor walk through the earth exultantly, because Allaah Almighty does not like any self-deluded or boastful person. You should be moderate in your pace and lower your voice instead of screaming like donkeys. Indeed, the harshest of all voices which is not liked by any individual is the voice of the ass. It is the pith of the advices of Luqman, which has been mentioned in Holy Qur’an. Every individual should act upon them.
