Quran Chapter 24: 55a (Pt-18, Stg-4) (L-2243) درس قرآن

A Promise of God

Chapter Nuur” – (Light) - 24

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

55a.  Allah hath promised such of you as believe and do good work that He will surely make them to succeed (the present rulers) in the earth even as He caused those who were before them to succeed (others); and that He will surely establish for them their religion which He hath approved for them, and will give them in exchange safety after their fear.
55a.  Wa-‘adAllaahul-laziina  ‘aa-manuu  minkum  wa  ‘amilus-saalihaati  layastakh-lifanna-hum  fil-‘arzi  kamastakh-lafal-laziina  min  qablihim;  wa  la-yumakki-nanna  lahum  diina-humullazir-tazaa  lahum  wa  layubaddi-lannahum-mim-  ba’di  khawfihim  ‘amnaa.

Commentary

‘Istakh-lafa – (made them successors in Government, granted them succession to authority), it is past tense from the word ‘istakhlaaf, which has come out from khalaf. Khalaf means “to follow, to come late”. ‘Istakhlaaf means “to appoint someone else at the place of already appointed person”.

Layastakh-lifanna – {He will surely make (them) to succeed (the present rulers)}.

It was commanded in the previous verse that the Messenger (grace glory, blessings and peace be upon him) had no other charge than to convey the Message plainly, which has been performed by him. Now it is your duty that you should do your work. If you will follow the Sayings of the Messenger (grace glory, blessings and peace be upon him), you will prosper and succeed in this world and on the Day of Resurrection.

It has been mentioned clearly in this verse that what will be provided to the obedient people of the Messenger (grace glory, blessings and peace be upon him) in this world in future, so that short-sightedness of those, who doubt in future of Islam, may be shown plainly. And it may be explained that if you cannot know the circumstances of future by tokens, then lo! We describe you. Listen! Allaah Almighty has promised strongly and finally with those people who believe and do good works in accordance with the instructions of the Messenger (grace glory, blessings and peace be upon him), that they will be granted succession to authority upon the earth in future. And as different ancient folks were made to succeed as rulers before them on the earth turn by turn, like them; Allaah Almighty will make the Believers to succeed the present rulers. And their religion, which is Allaah’s favorite religion, will be established and strengthened. And they will be bestowed with the life of peace and safety, in exchange of their present life of fear and dread.

This verse was revealed during that period when the Muslims had been passing life full of different dangers. And the history is witness that this prediction was fulfilled.

Quran Chapter 24: 54 (Pt-18, Stg-4) (L-2242) درس قرآن

Passionless advice

Chapter Nuur” – (Light) - 24

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

54.  Say: Obey Allah and obey the Messenger. Then if ye turn away, then (it is) for him (to do) only that wherewith he hath been charged, and for you (to do) only that wherewith ye have been charged. If ye obey him, ye will go aright. And the Messenger hath no other charge than to convey (the message) plainly.
54.  Qul  ‘attii-‘Ullaaha  wa  ‘atii-ur-Rasuul.  Fa-‘in-  tawallaw  fa-‘innamaa  ‘alayhi  maa  hummila  wa  ‘alaykum-maa  hummiltum.  Wa  ‘in-  tutii-‘uuhu  tahtaduu.  Wa  maa  ‘alar-Rasuli  ‘illal-Balaagul-mubiin.

Commentary

After that, it is commanded: Instead of making lame excuses and gaining your credit by swearing, you should bow your heads before the Commandments of Allaah Almighty and be ready to do without hesitation according to instructions of the Messenger of Allaah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). If you desire to accomplish by telling lies, then you are thinking wrong. Your all oaths solemnly sworn are on one side and being prepared to work during trouble is on the other side. It is required from you that you should do only that for which you are ordered, although that is very little work. Making up stories at that time when there is no work to do, swearing that you are obedient but turning away at the time of going forth, is entirely misleading. If you think that you will make inopportune lame excuses and run away at the occasion, then you cannot be included in our people.

It is commanded: Say to them clearly, if they choose the way of deserting in difficulties, that I have to fulfill only that responsibility for which Allaah Almighty has appointed me (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). And that responsibility is “to convey His Message plainly unto you”. Next, you are responsible of performing your duty, which is that you should listen to the Message, understand it and act upon it. However, if you will obey the Sayings of Allaah’s Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), then you will be triumphant in this world and in the Hereafter. Success will kiss your feet and you will find straight path of acquiring your entire objects. There is no responsibility of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) other than it that he should convey the Message clearly. You will be held responsible whether you obey it or otherwise.

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

53.  And they swear by Allah solemnly that, if thou order them, they will go forth. Say: Swear not; known obedience (is better). Lo! Allah is Aware of what ye do.
53.  Wa  ‘aqsamuu  Billaahi  jahda  ‘aymaanihim  la-‘in  ‘amar-tahum  layakhrujunn.  Qul-laa  tuqsimuu  Taa-‘atum-ma’-ruufah.  ‘InnAllaaha  khabbirum-  bimaa  ta’-maluun.

Commentary

Taa-‘atum-ma’-ruufah – (known obedience is better, such obedience is known, Obey as it should be), that is to say, you should obey the commandments practically also as common Muslims obey. There is no need of swearing by Allaah your so much strong oaths. The Hypocrites are peculiar people. Apparently they show their humility and covenant by their tongues strongly. But when the time of action comes, then they avoid and turn away stealthily. It was the condition of some time-servers of Madinah. They had faith in it that “the people who had embraced Islam with true hearts, were foolish and had been taken in. After a few days, the entire distraction of Islam would kiss the ground, and then only they would be present along with their luxurious enjoyment”. But they were so much clever that they did not wish to cut off their relationship with Muslims, because they (the Muslims) were getting victory everywhere. Although they used to consider that victory of the Muslims was a temporary matter, even then they used to effect their purpose by choosing the way of time serving.

When they used to come unto the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), they used to swear by Allaah their strongest oaths and say: Your Highness! We are your obedient servants. If you command us at the spot for fighting, we shall move forthwith and put the enemies out of their senses.

It is commanded: Say to them! Don’t swear so much strongly! The same obedience is required from you also which is a custom of obedience among other Muslims. They do not swear their strongest oaths. Without saying a word, they get ready at the time of every trouble. Remember it! Your affair is with Allaah Almighty. Indeed, He is Well Acquainted with that which you do.

52.  Wa  many-yuti-‘Illaaha  wa  RasuulaHuu  wa  yakhshAllaaha  wa  yattaqHi  fa-‘ulaaa-‘ika  humul- Faaa-‘izuun.

Commentary

Way of practice concerning hypocrites was described in the previous verses and it was informed that only those people can do so; whose hearts did not accept the influence of Belief. They say by their mouths; only for showing that they are servants of Islam, faithful and obedient slaves of Allaah Almighty. But when the time of trial comes, they don’t care about Islam and do what their hearts wish.

It has been commanded in this verse: It is not the manner of the Believers. Their habit is it that when they are called towards Allaah Almighty and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) for judgment in their disputes, they attend most willingly, without thinking about their profit and loss. And they regard it as true that whatsoever will be judged by the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), will be quite correct, and the rightful will be provided his right. These are the people who will succeed, because the rule has been made that desires of those people will be fulfilled on the Day of Resurrection who will be obedient of Allaah Almighty and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), will have fear of Allaah Almighty in their hearts every time and abstain from the things forbidden by Him. Actual and perpetual success is only for such people. But the people, who will commit contrary to it; they will weep and cry on that Day.

(Part Three-Fourth)

Commentary

Yahiifu – {(He) will wrong/will be unjust}, this word has come out from ha-ya-fa, which means “injustice and doing wrong”.

During the tenure of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), it happened that a dispute between a Muslim and a Jew was pulled out. The Muslim said: this thing is of mine, so it should be in my possession. The Jew said: I am rightful owner of it, so it should be given to me. He said also: Let’s go unto Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him)! He will judge that to whom it should be given. The Jew was sure that he (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) will decide with justice. But the Muslim’s heart was insincere. He considered that the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) would judge correctly, he would have to withdraw from that thing because the just decision was not in his favor. He was aware that by the judgment of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), he would despair.

Concerning such people, it is commanded: Claim of Belief and deserting from the judgment of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) cannot be gathered at one place. Those who leave the high road of Messenger’s judgment, either there is disease in their hearts, that is to say, they have been involved in the ill of greediness, which is such a disease of the heart, which does not let the mankind remain fair, or such people do not have belief in Allaah Almighty and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), they have doubted, or they consider that Allaah Almighty and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) will be unjust to them, snatch their right and cause to give it to others.

Nothing is correct from above mentioned doubts. Neither greediness is right, nor there is any chance of any doubt, and nor Allaah Almighty and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) can do wrong any person. The actual matter is that they themselves have gripped up their loins on violence. They wish to violate the right of others. And there is no aim of them but to warm up their own pocket.

49.  Wa  ‘iny-ya-kul-lahumul-haqqu  ya’-tuuu  ‘ilayhi  muz-‘iniin.

Commentary

It was commanded in the previous verse that some are such people who say by their mouths that they believe in Allaah Almighty, accept His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and are obedient in all respect. But when the time of obedience comes, they forget their treaty, disobey entirely and turn aside in refusal. It is clear that their all long and wide pretensions of belief and obedience were false totally. They used to say for the time being to accomplish their desires. But neither there was belief in their hearts and nor ever they thought that their obedience will be examined. Such people are hypocrites.

Their one more trickery has been described in this verse, explanation of which has passed in Suratun-Nisaa’. But it has been indicated here too, so that their impostures may be disclosed completely. And the Muslims may become cautious from them.

It is commanded: When they are called (for the judgment of their disputes) to the Words of Allaah Almighty and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), then there are some such people of them who do not agree upon it, because it appears before them clearly that he (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) will decide the dispute with justice and they will be at a loss, because their claim is in fact false. However, if they have assurance that the decision will be in favor of them, then they slink away unto the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) happily. They don’t care in this matter that the right should reach the Rightful, but they wish that the decision should be in favor of them, whether their claim is false.
