The End of Misfortune

Surah Yuusuf (Joseph) - 12

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim. 
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

 ٱذْهَبُوا۟ بِقَمِيصِىهَٰذَا فَأَلْقُوهُ عَلَىٰ وَجْهِ أَبِى يَأْتِ بَصِيرًا وَأْتُونِى بِأَهْلِكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ (93  

93.  Go with this shirt of mine and lay it on my father’s face, he will become (again) a seer, and come to me with all your folk.

93.  ‘Izhabuu  bi-qamiisii  haa-zaa  fa-‘alquuhu  ‘alaa  wajhi  ‘abii  ya’-ti  basiiraa.  Wa’-tuunii  bi-‘ahlikum  ‘ajma-‘iin. (Section 10)

   

Commentary

Qamiisun – (shirt),

About the shirt of Joseph (peace be upon him), the Commentators have written abundant, but in Holy Qur’aan, there is mention of a word “Qamiis” (shirt) only. It is obvious that; such shirt would be that; which was in His (peace be upon him) common use. As Allah Almighty informed to Joseph and He knew that by laying His shirt on the face of His Father {Jacob (peace be upon them)}, His vision will come back. Actual cure is in the Hand of Allah Almighty. According to His Will, apparently, He can fix anything as a cause of healing. The actual Healer is He only, so the shirt of Joseph became means for this purpose. In this regard, it is a miracle of Joseph (peace be upon him).

At first, He consoled to His brothers, then said to them: Go back unto our Father with my shirt, lay it on His {Jacob’s (peace be upon them)} face. By the Command of God Almighty, sight of Him will become accurate. After that, all of you, including Father and entire other members of our folk should come here (in Egypt) and dwell here.

Allah Almighty has fixed a time for every work. Some works are completed quickly; but some works take time. Besides other expediencies, Allah Almighty desires to test His chosen servants in the works; which take time in completion, so that they may deserve better rewards by having patience; and achieve higher ranks.

Prophet Jacob (peace be upon him) exists in Syria and Joseph (peace be upon them) in Egypt. Caravans have been moving between Syria and Egypt, but neither the people of Syria know about their close relative in Egypt and nor the Egyptian {Joseph (peace be upon him)} knows about His Father and brothers living in Syria.
