Moses (peace be upon him) and Pharaoh

Surah Huud (Hud) - 11

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
 
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مُوسَىٰ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا وَسُلْطَٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ (96  

إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَإِي۟هِۦ فَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَمْرَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَآ أَمْرُ فِرْعَوْنَ بِرَشِيدٍ (97

96.  And verily We sent Moses with Our Revelations and a clear warrant.

97.  Unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they did follow the command of Pharaoh, and the command of Pharaoh was not rightly directed.             
96.  Wa  laqad  ‘ar-sal-Naa  Muusaa  bi-‘Aayaati-Naa  wa  sultaa-nim-mubiin.

97.  ‘Ilaa  Fir-‘awna  wa  mala-‘ihii  fatta-ba-‘uuu  ‘amra  Fir-’awn.  Wa  maaa  ‘amru  Fir-‘awna  bi-Rashiid.

Commentary

For getting liberty of the Children of Israel from oppression of Pharaoh, Allah Almighty appointed Moses (peace be upon him) as His Messenger and gave him such clear warrants, by beholding which, any wise person, who uses his sense correctly, could not remain in doubt about the Messenger-hood of Moses (peace be upon him).

Allah Almighty commanded to Moses (peace be upon him): Go unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, and say to them! Give up oppressing the Children of Israel because they are also servants of the same Lord and Creator; Whose you are. And they are subjects too of Pharaoh like you.

When the conversation of Moses (peace be upon him) reached Pharaoh; he startled because he himself was a claimant of the godhead. He said: I have control over my country. I can trouble to whom I wish and be kind to whom I will. Who is he, who can forbid me from using my own power? His flatterer chiefs, who had been assembled around him, they all corroborated him and said: we consider that our king Pharaoh is our Master, and we are ready to obey his every commandment.

Then it is commanded: Base of all commandments from Pharaoh was on vanity and haughtiness. So whatsoever he used to order; was liable to err. He himself was a great astray, refractory and criminal, therefore there could be no good of the people in obeying his commandment. We can understand from it that if a king passes any wrong order, he should be caused to know, so that he should accept his error. It is not good to carry out his orders blindly.
