Two conjoint seas

Chapter Furqaan”- {The Criterion (of Right and Wrong)} - 25

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

52.  So obey not the disbelievers, but strive against them herewith with a great endeavour.

53.  And He it is Who hath conjoined the two seas (though they meet); one palatable, sweet, and the other saltish, bitter; and hath set a bar and a forbidding ban between them.
52.  Falaa  tuti-‘il-kaafiriina  wa  jaahidhum-  bihii  jihaadan-  kabiiraa.

53.  Wa  Huwallazii  marajal-  bahrayni  haazaa  ‘azbun-  furaatunw-wa  haazaa  milhun  ‘ujaaj.  Wa  ja-‘ala  baynahumaa  Barzakhanw-wa  hijram-mahjuuraa.

Commentary

Furaat – (palatable, agreeable to the taste or mind), origin of this word is farata. Furaat is such water which is tasty in drinking and which quenches the thirst (cold and sweet water).

Hijram-mahjuuraa – (a bar and forbidding ban, a wall which itself is behind a fence).

Barzakh – (separation, a screen), this word has passed in the last Section of Suratul-Mu’-minuun.

There are only a few people in the world, who accept the Truth immediately, but certainly they exist, and due to their life; the world is firm. But contrary to them, rebellious and wicked people are more in numbers who, by their mischief and obstinacy, cause to arrive the world at the bank of destruction. As soon as the truth loving people stand against them by holding the Holy Qur’an in their hands, they overcome by the help of Allaah Almighty and set the world right again.

In this verse, stress is being laid on the Messenger of Allaah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) that he should not be attentive to the sayings of the disbelievers and by making the teachings of Holy Qur’an a flambeau of the path, he should oppose them by force.

Then, one more portent of the Power of Allaah Almighty has been described, so that the careless people may somehow know their Creator. Behold! Above and underneath the surface of this earth, two seas have been flowing conjoined without any apparent wall. Water of one of which is palatable and sweet, whereas other’s water is saltish and bitter. A hidden bar and invisible forbidding ban has been set between them. Taste of the water of one sea does not change the taste of the water of the other. Those people witness it who dwell near the seas.
