Chapter “Nuur” – (Light) - 24
‘A-‘uu-zu Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah
from Satan the outcast)
Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

وَلَا يَأْتَلِ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْفَضْلِ مِنكُمْ وَٱلسَّعَةِ أَن يُؤْتُوٓا۟ أُو۟لِى ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ وَٱلْمَسَٰكِينَ وَٱلْمُهَٰجِرِينَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَلْيَعْفُوا۟ وَلْيَصْفَحُوٓا۟ أَلَا تُحِبُّونَ أَن يَغْفِرَ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْوَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ 22

22. And let not those
who posses dignity and ease among you, swear against giving to the near of
kin and to the needy, and to fugitives for the cause of Allah. Let them
forgive and show indulgence. Yearn ye not that Allah may forgive you? And
Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

22. Wa laa
ya’-tali ‘ulul-fazli minkum
wassa-‘ati ‘anyyu’-tuuu ‘ulil-qurbaa wal-masaa-kiina wal-Muhaajiriina fii-
SabiiLillaah. Wal-ya’-fuu wal-yas-fahuu. ‘Alaa
tuhibbuuna ‘any-yagfirAllaahu lakum.
Wallaahu Gafuurur-Rahiim.

Commentary
Laa ya’-tali – (they
should not swear), it is a negative sentence from the word ‘iitilaa-‘un,
origin of which is ‘il-yatun (oath). The aim from the word “‘iitilaa-‘un”
is “to swear that I shall not do this work”.
The Muslims were directed clearly in the previous verses that
they were misled by Satan and his human disciples, and they had been entangled
in their trap, but they should never co-operate with those who spread false
rumors and circulate the liar stories of indecency in future.
After that, now they should conciliate with one another mutually
and be connected socially. Rich people of you, who used to support the poor
people financially, they should continue this practice. Forgive that person if any
from them was involved in the seduction ignorantly, show indulgence and be not
angry upon him in future. And if any rich person had sworn, being in anger that
he would never help those who participated in spreading the calumny, they
should break their oath and pay its expiation and pay the scholarship of the
needy continuously. Allaah Almighty is Forgiving, Merciful. You should supplicate
in His Court that haply He forgive your sins. You also should forgive the
errors of others.
Therefore, Abu Bakr (may Allaah be pleased with
him) paid expiation of his oath after hearing this verse from the Messenger of Allaah
Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and began to issue the
scholarship of his nephew named Masattah again (which was discontinued
by swearing in anger), who participated and was involved in spreading the false
accusation.
