The Blindness

Chapter Hajj” – (The Pilgrimage) - 22

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

45.  How many townships have We destroyed before them because they were wrongdoers, so that it lieth (to this day) in ruins, and (how many) deserted wells and lofty towers!

46.  Have they not travelled in the land, so that they may have hearts wherewith to feel and ears wherewith to hear? For indeed it is not the eyes that grow blind, but it is the hearts, which are within the bosoms, that grow blind.
45.  Faka-‘ayyim-min-  qaryatin  ‘ahlak-Naahaa  wa  hiya  zaalimatun  fahiya  khaa-wiyatun  ‘alaa  ‘uruushihaa  wa  bi’-rim-mu-‘attalatinw-wa  qasrim-mashiid.

46.  ‘Afalam  yasiiruu  fil-‘arzi  fatakuuna  lahum  quluubuny-ya’-qiluuna  bihaaa  ‘aw  ‘aazaanuny-yasma-‘uuna  bihaa.  Fa-‘innahaa  laa  ta’-mal-  ‘absaaru  wa  laakin  ta’-mal-quluubul-latii  fis-suduur.

Commentary
Kkhaa-wiyatun – (lying), it is the Subject Feminine from the word “kha-wa-ya”, which means “to fall due to weakness”. Kkhaa-wiyatun means “fallen”.

‘Uruushun – (the roofs), this word is plural of “’Arsh”, which has passed in Suratul- ‘An-‘aam.

Khaa-wiyatun  ‘alaa  ‘uruushihaa – {(the roofs of townships) have been fallen} and the stuff of their walls fell upon them.

Constancy of the world depends upon the deeds of the mankind. Their good deeds help maker forces and evil deeds strengthen destroyer forces. The same matter has been explained in this verse. It is commanded: Before you, many townships were destroyed due to evil deeds of their inhabitants. Their houses fell down, wells became useless, great and strong buildings were ruined. If you will travel in the world, you will see the signs of their destruction. By looking them, eyes of your hearts and ears should be opened. Without their opening, apparent eyes and ears are useless. Real blindness is blindness of the heart. If your eyes of the heart are opened but you have not apparent eyes, you are not blind.
