Condition of the mountains

Chapter TAA-HAASurah – 20)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

Commentary

Qaa-‘un – (a plain, a field)

Safsafun – (level, open)

‘Iwajun – (crookedness, a hole)

‘Amtun – (ruggedness of the land, a rising ground, unevenness, roughness)

‘Ad-Daa-‘iya – (the Summoner, a well-wisher, one who calls or demands or blesses), here it aims “’Israa-fiil” (the name of an Angel who will blow the Trumpet on the Resurrection Day and call: Come on for being produced before Allaah Almighty).

Laa  ‘iwaja  lah – (none will be able to turn away therefrom, for them there will be no crookedness), that is to say; they will come forth straight on the Voice of the Caller without turning unto right or left.

When it was said to the people, “the disobedient of Allaah Almighty will be produced in His Court after bringing them to life after death”, then they did not understand that “so much strong and heavy things of the world like mountains will be annihilated, and the people who have died; they will be reproduced and accounts of their worldly deeds will be reckoned”, then some people began to say being surprised: Lo! How these high and heavy mountains will be disappeared?

Reply to their question has been given in these verses that, “O ignorant people! These mountains are nothing before the Power and Omnipotence of Allaah Almighty. He will break them little by little and into scattered dust. The earth will become entirely as a level plain, in which you will see neither any curve and nor ruggedness. As soon as the entire dead mankind will hear the Voice of the Trumpet blown by Angel ‘Israa-fiil (peace be upon him), they will get up immediately from all conditions (wherever they will be and in which condition they will be) and they will run behind the Voice of the Trumpet. Every individual will take this Voice as a command that: Run unto the Field of Resurrection! Then there will be none who may be able to turn away from the path of the Field of Resurrection.
