Commentary

Nabraha – (we shall cease, desist), origin of this word is baraahun, which means “to desist from own place or to fall back from own saying”.

‘Aakifiina – (votaries, devotees), this word is plural of ‘aakif, which has been derived from “’akafa”. Its origin is ‘ukuufun, which means “to be bound by vow to the service (of)”. This word has passed in Suratul-Baqarah. The word ‘a’-takaaf is also from the same.

Prophet Aaron (peace be upon him) caused to understand the Children of Israel that “what are you doing this stupidity? Is this idol of a calf any such thing; which should be adored? Worthy of Worship is only Rahmaan (The Beneficent)”. But they began to relish from this adoration, because they had seen adorations of this kind during their stay in Egypt. Saying of Samirii had taken their hearts. He would have caused to understand them also that “who does know that Moses will return surely or otherwise?. Even if he came back, it will come to his mind that only the calf is worthy of worship. He had forgotten it. It is the reason that he has gone in search of any other God”.

The Children of Israel had been attracted as much from the nonsense talking of Samirii that they did put the command of Aaron (peace be upon him) aside and said: we shall continue adoring of the calf. After arrival of Moses (peace be upon him), it will be decided that what we should do. At this time, we shall not change our way of worship.

In these verses, it is being caused to understand the mankind that “obeying any person without thinking; is a sign of foolery. The mankind should not be deceived from wheedling by any person. Think before obeying any person’s command and consider that whether his command has some weight or otherwise.

Accepting the sayings of any person blindly or falling in love of any individual’s conjuration/charm is the work of foolish people. Intelligent person will use his sense certainly and he will not be entangled in the trap of any wicked.
