(As-Sajdah – Bow down)
(Section 5)

Commentary

It is commanded: O Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him)! You should bow down before Allaah Almighty, The Immortal, and trust in Him Who completed the creation of this spacious system of the heavens and the earth in a long duration gradually. You can say that it was done within Six Days, but the measurement of those Days cannot be calculated according to the times of this world. Foundation of the time of this world depends on the sun and the moon. But the heavens and the earth were created before them. The Day of those times will be determined equal to one thousand years and sometime fifty thousand years according to the present days.

After creating these entire things, Allaah Almighty mounted the Throne, which is called “Arsh”. This all is Manifestation of His kindness and He is the most Merciful. If you desire to know Allaah Almighty, you should ask from that who knows Him. These idolaters do not know The Beneficent. When they are instructed to bow down before The Beneficent, they say: What is The Beneficent? Should we adore Him concerning Whom you {O Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him)} bid us?

Aversion of these ignorant people increases more when the name of The Beneficent is spoken before them and they get one more evasion of denial that you have given up Allaah and now one other God has created. It is nothing but your own commandment.

(After reciting or hearing this verse, one should bow down before Allaah Almighty).

57.  Say: I ask of you no reward for this, save that whoso will may choose a way unto his Lord.

58.  And trust thou in the Living One Who dieth not, and hymn His Praise. And He sufficeth as the Knower of His bondmen’s sins -
57.  Qul  maaa  ‘as-‘alukum  ‘alayhi  min  ‘ajrin  ‘illaa  man  shaaa-‘a  ‘any-yattakhiza  ‘ilaa  Rabbihii  Sabiilaa.

58.  Wa  tawakkal  ‘alal-Hayyil-lazii  laa  yamuutU  wa  sabbih  bi-HamdiH.  Wa  kafaa  biHii  bi-zunuubi  ‘ibaadiHii  Khabiiraa.

Commentary

It was described earlier that the mankind is such a careless person who forgot his Lord and has been worshiping such things which neither have power to benefit him and nor those can hurt him. For startling him from the negligence, Prophets of Allaah Almighty (peace be upon them) were sent, but he conceived that they were also selfish like him (Let us flee to Allaah), and he accused them falsely that “while they have no any special quality then why should he admit them as guide? They too have been striving for acquiring wealth and property, honor and strength. They wish that the people should obey them, produce gifts, offerings and vows before them, so that they may command the people and enjoy”.

In this verse, it is being commanded to the Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him): Put their misunderstanding away by saying clearly that! I do not ask any reward of you. I am not necessitous of anything from your earnings. The only object of mine is that I should guide the human beings unto that path which leads towards Allaah Almighty. And whosoever is desirous of that path, I should convey him its Sign and teach about the Way of going on that path.

Then it is commanded: O Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him): You should trust in That Who is the Living One, Who will never die, and hymn His Praise every time in these words “SubhaanAllaahi  wa  bi-HamdiHii, SubhaanAllaahil  ‘Aziim”. And you should not worry concerning the sins of His bondmen. He knows about their wrong deeds very well. His knowledge and Power is sufficient to reward or punish against their good or wrong deeds.

Commentary

In several verses before these, it was being described concerning those portents, by reflecting in which, Power of Allaah Almighty can be observed clearly. Many people saw those circumstances in the world and instead of admitting to them as Power of Allaah Almighty, they began to search their material causes and tried their best in this matter. They contented on means and gave up thinking about the question that Who appoints these causes and their results.

Out of these entire incidents, by which human beings should know Allaah Almighty, one incident has been mentioned in these verses that the creation of the mankind is from a drop of water. And then they have been living pleasantly after getting corroboration from one another by means of ancestral and nuptial relationships. They should think that Who created them and Who produced mutual concordance between them for their ease. It has no reply but to say that Allaah Almighty is our Creator Who is Omnipotent upon everything. Only He is Originator of mutual cooperation and conjoining the people together. In spite of it, some people adore such things instead of Allaah Almighty which can neither benefit them and nor hurt them. However, the messenger (peace be upon him) is appointed only as a Bearer of good tidings concerning good works and a Warner concerning consequences of wicked deeds.

52.  So obey not the disbelievers, but strive against them herewith with a great endeavour.

53.  And He it is Who hath conjoined the two seas (though they meet); one palatable, sweet, and the other saltish, bitter; and hath set a bar and a forbidding ban between them.
52.  Falaa  tuti-‘il-kaafiriina  wa  jaahidhum-  bihii  jihaadan-  kabiiraa.

53.  Wa  Huwallazii  marajal-  bahrayni  haazaa  ‘azbun-  furaatunw-wa  haazaa  milhun  ‘ujaaj.  Wa  ja-‘ala  baynahumaa  Barzakhanw-wa  hijram-mahjuuraa.

Commentary

Furaat – (palatable, agreeable to the taste or mind), origin of this word is farata. Furaat is such water which is tasty in drinking and which quenches the thirst (cold and sweet water).

Hijram-mahjuuraa – (a bar and forbidding ban, a wall which itself is behind a fence).

Barzakh – (separation, a screen), this word has passed in the last Section of Suratul-Mu’-minuun.

There are only a few people in the world, who accept the Truth immediately, but certainly they exist, and due to their life; the world is firm. But contrary to them, rebellious and wicked people are more in numbers who, by their mischief and obstinacy, cause to arrive the world at the bank of destruction. As soon as the truth loving people stand against them by holding the Holy Qur’an in their hands, they overcome by the help of Allaah Almighty and set the world right again.

In this verse, stress is being laid on the Messenger of Allaah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) that he should not be attentive to the sayings of the disbelievers and by making the teachings of Holy Qur’an a flambeau of the path, he should oppose them by force.

Then, one more portent of the Power of Allaah Almighty has been described, so that the careless people may somehow know their Creator. Behold! Above and underneath the surface of this earth, two seas have been flowing conjoined without any apparent wall. Water of one of which is palatable and sweet, whereas other’s water is saltish and bitter. A hidden bar and invisible forbidding ban has been set between them. Taste of the water of one sea does not change the taste of the water of the other. Those people witness it who dwell near the seas.

Commentary

SarrafNaa – (We disposed of in many ways), it is past tense from the word tasriif, which has been derived from saraf. Saraf means “expenditure, disbursement”. Tasriif means “to inflect, to distribute in various forms”.

It is commanded: Allaah Almighty arranged in the world by His Power for it that after troublesome heat and dearth, cold winds should blow and bring glad tidings of raining. Then pure and purifying water should rain from the sky, by which the lands all around the populations come to life again, verdure grow every side, green crops flourish and gardens bloom. By drinking this water, many beasts and mankind from the creations of Allaah Almighty quench their thirst. He unfolds His Omnipotence in this way too that it should not rain equally everywhere, but it should rain at some places more and at some places less during different times, so that the people may not consider that it rains and stops itself according to the customs. Moreover, they should remember it that it is only in the Power of Allaah Almighty. The aim from it is that the mankind should know Him by using his sense and looking His clear Tokens.

Allaah Almighty commands: If We willed, We would have sent a Prophet in every village, so that he would have frightened the people every time from the consequences of their wicked deeds, but at this time; only one Messenger, that is to say, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and one Scripture (Holy Qur’an) is entirely sufficient for the wise people, if they use their sense properly.
