They go astray who neither fear God nor hear the Truth

Lesson # 664 From Holy Qur’aan

They go astray who neither fear God nor hear the Truth

‘Al-Maaa-‘idah (the Table Spread) – Chapter – 5)–Stage - 2

Verses –107 & 108 of 120, Section – 14 of 16 (Part - 7)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

107.  Then, if it is afterwards ascertained that both of them have been guilty of sin, let two others take their place of those nearly concerned, and let them swear by Allaah, (saying): Verily our testimony is truer than their testimony and we have not transgressed (the bounds of duty), for then indeed we should be of the evildoers.

108.  Thus it is more likely that they will bear true witness or fear that after their oaths, the oaths (of others) will be taken. And be mindful of your duty (to Allaah) and hearken. And Allaah guideth not the froward folk.

Lesson

During the time of the Messenger of Allaah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), a Muslim named Badiil and two Christians named Tiim and ‘Adii went on campaigning in the land together. Badiil died in the way, but before death he gave his entire property in the charge of both Christians, so that they may hand it over to his heirs. After reaching back they handed over the property to its heirs. A list of the entire articles was found in the luggage by the heirs. Then they knew that a silver bowl does not exist in the luggage which was golden electroplated. The Christians were asked about it but they replied, “We have nothing more. That bowl was spent on medicament of the deceased person. Thereupon the heirs reported the case to the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) and requested that a bowl was missing. On that, He (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) administered an oath from the Christians in accordance with the previous verse. They both swore that the total luggage was this and they had seized nothing. The Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) absolved them.

After a few days, that bowl was found on a goldsmith shop and the shop-keeper told that the bowl was sold to him by Tiim and ‘Adii. Then the case was decided according to this verse, because the heirs did not have witnesses. It is commanded that if it is afterwards ascertained that both of them have been guilty of sin and have seized some goods, and their oath was false, let two others take their place of those nearly concerned, and let them swear by Allaah, (saying): Verily our testimony is truer than their testimony and we have not transgressed (the bounds of duty), for then indeed we should be of the evildoers. Allaah Almighty says: Swearing in this manner will be hopefully more powerful. They will bear true witness or fear that their oaths may be rejected too likewise the oaths of executors earlier.

When the heirs of the testator brought the case again unto the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) and could not arrange the witnesses, then He (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) called two nearly concerned persons and commanded them to stand up and administered an oath from them because they were denying the executors’ claim of truth.

It is considerable that how much little matters have been explained very clearly in the Word of Allaah Almighty (Holy Qur’aan)? It aims that the deeds, acts and mutual relations of the mankind may be corrected likewise his beliefs and manners. Nobody may violate the right of anyone, and if any sinner violates it, then it may be compensated, because the trial of the entire religion is “Affairs” only.

Then it is commanded that all the matters will be correct at the very time when fear of Allaah Almighty will be in the heart and everyone will try to escape from the evil deeds due to the fear of punishment and His commands will be listened carefully. So it is being reminded again and again “be mindful of your duty to Allaah and hearken. And whosoever neither frightens from Him, nor listens to Him, if that person is not a disobedient then what is he/she? And it is a Rule prescribed by Allaah Almighty that He does not guide the disobedient towards the Straight Path and they go astray, who neither fear from any threat, nor hearken the truth.

Just men should be appointed as witnesses

Lesson # 663 From Holy Qur’aan

Just men should be appointed as witnesses

‘Al-Maaa-‘idah (the Table Spread) – Chapter – 5)–Stage - 2

Verse –106 of 120, Section – 14 of 16 (Part - 7)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

O ye who believe! Let there be witnesses between you when death draweth nigh unto one of you, at the time of bequest – two witnesses, just men from among you, or two of the others not of you, in case ye are campaigning in the land and the calamity of death befall you. Ye shall empanel them both after the prayer, and if ye doubt, they shall be made to swear by Allaah (saying): We will not take a bribe, even though it were (on behalf of) a near kinsman nor will we hide the testimony of Allaah, for then indeed we should be of the sinful.
Yaaa-‘ayyu-hallaziina  ‘aamanuu  shahaadatu  baynikum  ‘izaa  hazara  ‘ahada-kumul-mawtu  hiinal-wa-siyyatis-naani  zawaa  ‘adlim-minkum  ‘aw  ‘aakha-raani  min  gayrikum  ‘in  ‘antum  Zarabtum  fil-‘arzi  fa-‘asaa-batkum-musii-batul-mawt.  Tah-bisuuna-humaa  mim-  ba’-dis-Salaati  fa-yuqsi-maani  BIllaahi  ‘inir-tabtum  laa  nash-tarii  bihii  samananw-wa  law  kaana  zaa  qurbaa,  wa  laa  naktumu  shahaada-tAllaahi  ‘innaaa  ‘izalla-minal-‘aasimiin.

Lesson

Method of appointing any person as executor to carry into effect the will of a testator, who is on the point of death, is being explained in this verse. The executor is the person whom any testator gives in charge of his/her property/wealth, so that the executor may hand over it to the heirs. Appointing two Men as executors, who should be just Muslims, is better, because nevertheless, a Muslim (Believer) can never be a faithless. However, if the persons of required standard are not available, then any two common persons from among the Muslims can be appointed as executors. But if someone is campaigning in the land and the calamity of death befall him/her, then any non-Muslim can also be appointed as the executor.

Maximum scholars of the religion have faith that any non-Muslim can be appointed as executor if the Muslim is not available. Otherwise, only any Muslim should be appointed as executor. It has the reason that during the ancient days, only the Muslims were such people who were considered pure from dishonesty. Unfortunately, now a day, the Disbelievers and Idolaters are deemed more faithful, honest and just than the Muslims. The Muslims should take warning from it.

It has been described here that if the heirs doubt that some part of inheritance of the dead person has been misappropriated by the executors and they did not hand over the entire heritage honestly. But the witnesses are not available to prove the misappropriation. In this condition, an oath would be administered from the executors that they did not embezzle. And this oath will be taken from them after the prayer. The commentators of the Holy Word (Quran) has explained that administration of the oath after the ‘Asr prayer is more reasonable. Otherwise every oath can be administered after every prayer, because anyhow, everybody has more fear of God Almighty after the worship than other times.

It is commanded, “If you have doubt on the executors that they are dishonest and you have not any witness to prove their dishonesty, then you should stop the both executors after prayer and they should swear before all the people upon this matter that they are honest”, and they should say, “Certainly neither we desire to embezzle any part of heritage falsely, nor we have any greed of wealth and nor relationship can stir us up for dishonesty that we cause to give more part of heritage to any near kinsman”. They should also say, “We swear by Allaah Almighty that we shall neither give any false evidence on His name, nor putt off His command and nor hide the Truth. If we do so, then indeed we should be of the sinful”.

Such an incident was happened during the time of the Messenger of Allaah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), in which there were two Christians appointed as the executors. There was a doubt in their honesty. So an oath was administered from them.

God will inform you about your all acts, on your return to Him

Lesson # 662 From Holy Qur’aan

God will inform you about your all acts, on your return to Him

‘Al-Maaa-‘idah (the Table Spread) – Chapter – 5)–Stage - 2

Verse –105 of 120, Section – 14 of 16 (Part - 7)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

O ye who believe! Ye have charge of your own souls. He who erreth cannot injure you if ye are rightly guided. Unto Allaah ye will all return; then He will inform you of what ye used to do.
Yaaa-‘ayyu-hallaziina  ‘aamanuu  ‘alay-kum  ‘anfu-sakum.  Laa  yazurrukum-man-  zalla  ‘izah-taday-tum.  ‘IlAllaahi  marji-‘ukum  jamii-‘an-  fayunabbi-‘ukum-  bimaa  kuntum  ta’-maluun.

Lesson

One such rule has been told to the Muslims in this verse, which is useful for the entire human beings and everybody can find the Straight Path by acting upon it. That Rule is: Every individual is responsible of one’s own deeds. None should harm oneself in imitation of one another. But it is compulsory that one should refrain from such works and as far as it may be possible, one should try to prevent others too from the evils. If anyone does not accept, don’t worry; let them do their own job.

The Muslims are being commanded that it is necessary for them to save their souls from destruction. Moreover, they should cause to know all other people that they will suffer misfortune of their own evil deeds. So every person should abstain from evil works. If they turn off your advice with a joke or deny accepting, they mar their own. They can never injure you, even that they are unable to perish any hair of you. If you will do as they do, you will harm yourselves in imitation of others by involving yourselves in evil deeds, and it is not befitting for any wise person to injure oneself.

Commit it to your mind! You all people would have to return unto Allaah Almighty; on that Day (the Day of Resurrection), He will show you that every mankind would have to suffer the punishment of one’s own evil deeds and in imitation of whom one was involved in evils, they will never be helpful for the one whether they were fathers, ancestors or anyone else.

It is known from this description that “Think properly before you do any work” that “the one is responsible oneself of one’s own deeds”. If that is a bad work, give it up and never do, otherwise, the one will be punished properly. It is the responsibility of every Muslim to prevent others from committing any evil work and the best method of carrying the message of Islam to others, is that “the one should do good works personally, so that the other people do also in imitation, observing the one”.

They say: Enough for us is that wherein we found our fathers

Lesson # 661 From Holy Qur’aan

They say: Enough for us is that wherein we found our fathers

‘Al-Maaa-‘idah (the Table Spread) – Chapter – 5)–Stage - 2

Verse –104 of 120, Section – 14 of 16 (Part - 7)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

And when it is said unto them: Come unto that which Allaah hath revealed and unto the Messenger, they say: Enough for us is that wherein we found our fathers. What! Even though their fathers had no knowledge whatsoever, and no guidance?

Lesson

In this verse, fundamental education of Islam has been described in an interesting manner. Islam is desirous that every command of Allaah Almighty and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) should be obeyed and acted upon. If traditions, customs and ways of life of our ancestors are against Islam, those should be given up entirely, because those manners and customs have no proof of their being good, while the commands of Allaah Almighty and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) have proof as well as responsibility of deliverance and success along with it too. So, this evasion that “how can we give up that tradition, wherein we found our ancestors?” is quite debauch and loosely. Its nonsense may be judged easily by using sense a little.

It is commanded that when the people are invited towards the prescribed Way of Allaah Almighty and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), they allege falsely: “Enough for us is that path, which our ancestors have left behind for us. They used to act upon these traditions and teach us the same”. In their reply, it has been told: Ask them, “Whether is it possible that your fathers may be unaware from the original knowledge or impossible? Is it not possible that they did not know the correct way? Would you like to follow them even then in such condition? It seems against wisdom”.

It is visible that if any knower more than them and who is well aware of the paths, says that the path, on which they used to go away and guided their children to follow them, at last will lead and let them fall in a blind pit, and then it will not be possible to come out from it, then certainly the talk of that experienced and well acquainted person is able to be listened and believed.

Bahira, Sa-‘ibah, Wasilah and Ham’i

Lesson # 660 From Holy Qur’aan

Bahira, Sa-‘ibah, Wasilah and Ham’i

‘Al-Maaa-‘idah (the Table Spread) – Chapter – 5)–Stage - 2

Verses –102 & 103 of 120, Section – 14 of 16 (Part - 7)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

102.  A folk before you asked (for such disclosers) and then disbelieved therein.

103.  Allaah hath not appointed anything in the nature of a Bahirah or a Sa’ibah or a Wasilah or a Ham’i, but those who disbelieve invent a lie against Allaah. And most of them have no sense.
102.  Qad  sa-‘alahaa-  qawmum-min-  qablikum  summa  ‘asbahuu  bihaa  kafiriin.

103.  Maa  ja-’alAllaahu mim  bahiira-tinw-wa  laa  saaa-‘ibatinw-wa  laa  wasiilatinw-wa  laa  haaminw-wa  laakin-nallaziina  kafaruu  yafta-ruuna  ‘alAllaahil-kazib.  Wa  ‘aksaruhum  laa  ya’-qiluun.

Lesson

Allaah Almighty commands that there was a folk before you, who asked about such disclosers, which were not made unlawful clearly, when they were replied then they knew that it was difficult to act upon them, so they denied from believing into them.
At first, they met with difficulty due to asking the command about such a matter, which was left only for their easiness. Secondly, when they were bidden to do as commanded, they felt trouble in its procedure compliance and refused to obey this order, and became disbelievers.

In the second verse, it has been forbidden from another absurd tradition of the idolaters, due to which, such lawful things were used to make unlawful by them, which were not made unlawful by Allaah Almighty. For example; they used to give up drinking the milk of any animal and say that it was left on the name of so and so idol. Only that particular idol was authorized to reap advantage from those ‘free’ animals, as now a day too, any male buffalo, bull or stallion etc. is set free.

These animals had separate names. The Bahirah was a female camel whose ears were cut; one would not allow his wife, daughters, or any of his household to benefit from its wool, hair or milk. But, if it died, they would share it. The Sa'ibah was a female camel, let loose for free pasture for the idols, and nothing was allowed to be carried on it. As for the Wasilah, it was the female camel that gives birth to twelve offspring females without any male camel’s birth in between the twelve. When female camel delivered for the thirteenth time, they would cut its ears and saying, It has Wasalat (connected deliveries),' and they would not slaughter it, hit it or prevent it from drinking from any pool. Ham’i was the male buffalo, bull or stallion etc. which was father of many offspring.

This all was done to please the idols, but along with it they used to say too that Allaah is also pleased due to these deeds. It is commanded that Allaah Almighty has not appointed anything in this nature (as explained above). They invent a lie and most of them have no sense, who say it the order of Allaah Almighty.

Let the matters go on everyone’s own free will, which are neither lawful nor unlawful

Lesson # 659 From Holy Qur’aan

Let the matters go on everyone’s own free will, which are neither lawful nor unlawful

‘Al-Maaa-‘idah (the Table Spread) – Chapter – 5)–Stage - 2

Verses –101 of 120, Section – 14 of 16 (Part - 7)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

O ye who believe! Ask not of things which, if they were made known unto you, would but trouble you; and if ye ask of them when the Qur’an is being revealed, they will be made known unto you. Allaah has pardoned this. And Allaah is Forgiving, Clement.
Yaaa-‘ayyu  -hallaziina  ‘aamanuu  laa  tas-‘aluu  ‘an  ‘ashyaaa-‘a  ‘in-tubda  lakum  tasu’-kum.  Wa  ‘in  tas-‘aluu  ‘anhaa  hiina  yunazza-lul-Qur-‘aanu  tubda  lakum.  ‘AfAllaahu  ‘anhaa.  WAllaahu  Gafuurun  Haliim.

Lesson

Summary of that narration, which has been being described with effect from the last two sections, is that you should neither increase anything, nor decrease yourselves in the matters of the religion. Do that, about which you are enjoined to do and refrain from that, which has been forbidden.

Attention of the Muslims has been drawn towards another matter in this verse. Some people began to ask such questions that if they were made known, then those matters would have been framed as the laws of the religion, and it would have become indispensable to act upon them. So this kind of investigation has been prohibited. There is a chance of narrowing an open way in it, willing or unwilling.

Allaah Almighty says that it is necessary for the believers that they should not ask the questions about such things, due to which, either the labour may increase, or the grief and sorrow can be created, because at the time of Divine Revelation, every answer will be descended by inspiration. And then it would become incumbent to act according to the revealed command.

This is a facility from Allaah Almighty that a lot of matters have been left without illustration. Bear in mind along with it also that Allaah Almighty is Forgiving too. Actually it should be in the manner that everyone would have to be ready to act upon that which is commanded, and none should ask any question from one’s own side willing or unwilling about anything.

This verse has the same instruction, which has been accepted as the best method of framing the laws. That is to say; to make those things lawful, which are useful clearly, to prevent entirely from those things, which are harmful openly, and to let the remaining matters go on every person’s own free will, that one may decide oneself thoughtfully. This is the Way, which Islam has chosen. Alas! Either many people do not understand, or they do not act in accord with it, who understands.

Know that God is Severe in Punishment

Lesson # 658 From Holy Qur’aan

Know that God is Severe in Punishment

‘Al-Maaa-‘idah (the Table Spread) – Chapter – 5)–Stage - 2

Verses – 98, 99 & 100 of 120, Section – 13 of 16 (Part - 7)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

98.  Know that Allaah is Severe in punishment, and that Allaah (also) is Forgiving, Merciful.

99.  The duty of the Messenger is only to convey (the Message). And Allaah knoweth what ye proclaim and what ye hide.

100.  Say: The evil and the good are not alike even though the plenty of the evil attract thee. So be mindful of your duty to Allaah, O men of understanding, that ye may succeed.
98.  ‘I’-lamuuu  ‘annAllaaha  Shadiidul-‘iqaabi  wa  ‘annAllaaha  Gafuur-Rahiim.

99.  Maa  ‘alar-Rasuuli  ‘illal  balaag.  WAllaahu  ya’-lamu  maa  tubduuna  wa  maa  tak-tumuun.

100.  Qul-laa  yas-ta-wil-khabiisu  wat-tayyibu  wa  law  ‘a’-jabaka  kas-ratul-khabiis.  FattaqUllaaha  yaaa-‘ulil-‘al-baabi  la-‘allakum  tufli-huun.

The most important social principal of Islam is
Bidding the GOOD & FORBIDDING THE EVIL”
‘Amr  bil  Ma’-ruuf  wa  nahii  ‘anil  munkar

Lesson

Those matters are kept on different places in the Holy Qur’aan like these verses, which Allaah Almighty desires to teach the humankind. From the beginning of this Chapter (Surah), some commands regarding some works to be done and some are forbidden as ‘Amr bil Ma’-ruuf wa Nahii ‘anil Munkar  (Bidding the Good and Forbidding the Evil) are being explained. It can be understood clearly by thinking into them deeply that Which the Way of our life is suitable?

Today it is commanded: Know that Allaah Almighty is Severe in punishment, and He also is Forgiving and Merciful. Then the same verse has been repeated that the duty of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) is only to convey the Message properly. Every matter of everyone is with Allaah Almighty in future. He knows the open and hidden deeds of every person.  We can understand clearly, if we deem that “The human being should understand well efficiently before starting one’s works that the Creator of entire works, the world and one’s own, is One, only Allaah (God), Who is Mighty and Master of all creatures, and the entire are His servants and slaves. Neither can any person give anything to anyone, and nor can anybody snatch but Allaah. Without His order, neither can anyone harm someone, nor favor without His Will. So neither there is any need to be frightened from any person, nor want of flatter/worship to any creature. He will punish severely to the evildoers and is Forgiving for them, who request Him humbly and bow in front of Him hopelessly. The evils and sins are those acts and deeds, which have been forbidden by Him in Holy Qur’aan, revealed on His Last Messenger, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). And the good works are those, which have been enjoined by Him to be done. Therefore, there is no purpose of our life other than that we should obey His commands, do that what His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) says, and refrain from that, from which He (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) forbids us. That entire is useless which we do without or against His command.

In the previous section, the Muslims were prohibited that they should not fix the lawful and pure things as unlawful for themselves, and it was told that they should give up those some things, which are impure and the evil. It was signified that the evil things are those, due to which Satan gets opportunity to cause to fight and raise disturbance mutually between the human beings. On the contrary, Allaah Almighty has kept very big advantages in the good, pure and lawful things. The aim to cause to understand from it was that certainly those deeds and things are harmful for the human beings, which are forbidden by Allaah Almighty. And certainly those deeds and things are useful and advantageous for the mankind, either in the world or on the Day of Resurrection, which are commanded by Him to be done. Therefore, the Muslims should stop those acts immediately, about which Allaah Almighty has forbidden and do those acts immediately, about which He has enjoined to do, because it is impossible that Allaah Almighty bids to do a deed and there is no usefulness in that command.

The verse under discussion today, makes the same subject known clearly that science of human being is not sufficient to know the good and the evil of the things/acts. So they should be told that pure things and impure things will never be alike in grades. If the pure thing is even less in quantity, even then that is better than the impure in plenty. Although, the evil becomes public in each direction and the people are taken in that the thing, which has become prevalent, would be good. If the evil has spread everywhere and the people do it in plenty, then it does not mean that it would be good. Goodness and badness of anything depends on the command of Allaah Almighty.

At the end of the last verse it has been described that the men of understanding should be mindful of their duty to Allaah Almighty. Hope of their liberation is in it only. Another hint has come out in this verse also that the decision should not depend on the majority of votes or opinions, but it should be according to the commands of Allaah Almighty and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him).
