Commentary

Jinnatun - (madness), this word has been derived from jinn, meaning of this origin is “to conceal”. When disorder occurs in the sense of a mankind, his such condition is exposed with the word Jinnatun, that is to say; under the influence of madness. Such person is called “Mad, Lunatic”.

The man considers that the matters which have become prevalent; are correct, and he does continuously such works unintentionally, and likes to do the same work in the same way practically, which has been determined by the people. Holy Qur’an explains that which traditions and customs have prevailed, and which way of their committing has been fixed, it is not indispensable that those are correct. Allaah Almighty sent in the world His Prophets (peace be upon them) and Scriptures to abolish false traditions and customs, and to introduce the correct way of practice. The people, who abode by the false traditions and customs, quarreled with the Prophets (peace be upon them).

Accordingly, chieftains of the folk of Noah (peace be upon him) said: If Allaah had willed to send a Messenger, He would have sent any angel. If a man says contrary to other men, surely he is a mad. How can we accept that the traditions and customs which have been coming with effect from our forefathers; are false, but which Noah (peace be upon him) is saying; is true? We did never hear such thing from our elders. Whatsoever he (peace be upon him) says, it seems that certainly his sense is unsound. Give him respite for a few days more, mayhap his mind becomes sound.

When Noah (peace be upon him) heard this, he prayed: My Lord! These people consider that I am a liar. Help me so that I may get rid of them and they may not harm me.
