unto the angels: Fall prostrate before Adam, they fell prostrate (all) save Ibliis.

O Adam! This is an enemy unto thee and unto thy wife, so let him not drive

Commentary
Tashqaa – (you come to toil, you are entangled in calamity/ill-fortune),
origin of this word is shiqaaa-‘un, which means “to be entangled in
severe difficulty and inconvenience, to fail in getting the desired thing, to
be surrounded in intricacies”. The word “shaqaawat” has also come out
from the same origin, which means “hard heartedness, misery, disgrace, poverty
etc.”
Allaah Almighty, Who is Creator of the universe, brought Adam (peace
be upon him) into being and honored him by giving best face and form, sense and
strength. Then with this thought that he should not be confused due to
loneliness, He created Eve as his wife and life partner. The Angels (peace be
upon them) wondered that “what will be function of this independent creature,
which has sense and strength? Liberty along with power is cause of all troubles
and quarrels”.
Allaah Almighty commanded: Only I know this creature. It is better for
you that you should fall prostrate before him. The Angels (peace be upon them)
did not refuse. They fell prostrate immediately, but Iblis (Satan) refused
from falling prostrate before Adam (peace be upon him) and said: How can it be
that I fall prostrate before this statue; made of mud?
At that time, it was commanded: O Adam (peace be upon him)! It
is Our decision for you that you along with your wife should be kept in the
Garden (Paradise). Therefore you both will live there. But remember it that Iblis
(Satan), who did not fall prostrate before you, is your enemy. He will drive
you and your wife out of the Garden. If you are dismissed from the Garden then
you would have to pass your life with some restrictions. Your physical and
spiritual powers will fight against each other and you will be entangled in
troubles.
