Commentary
Tahmiluhuu – (carrying him), this word has come out
from hamala. The word “Hamal” was used for “pregnancy” before
this. Here it aims “to take in the lap”.
Fariyyun – (surprising and amazing thing), it is an
adjective from the word fa-ra-ya. Fariyyun means “to fashion, to
invent”. From the same a word “’iftraa’” has been derived which has
passed earlier. Here it aims “such matter which is against a custom and may be cause
of ignominy and evil”.
‘Ukhta- Haaruuna – (Sister
of Aaron), may be that there would be a brother of Mary (peace be upon her) of
the same name or for the reason that she was from the relatives of Aaron (peace
be upon him), so she was called as “the sister of Aaron”.
Bagiyyun – (unchaste), this word has passed in the
same Section before this.
When taking the baby in her lap, Mary (peace be upon her) came
unto her relatives and the people of her folk in her township, they were very
amazed and they began to say: What is this violence that a child has been born
from a virgin. It is the matter which is contrary to custom, law, Divine way of
Religion and traditions of dignified people. And it is the reason of severe
disgrace among own as well as other people. All of us know well about your lineage.
Your father was not any disreputable person. Your mother also was a chaste
woman. Any such work did not occur from her; which may blot on her name or on
the name of her family. How have you been born among such pure, chaste and good
people that you have caused a new disturbance?
In short, the people would have been talking like this, from
which May (peace be upon her) was already afraid and confused. But her
conscience was quite chaste and pure.
