Commentary
Kaaaf-Haa-Yaa-‘Ayyyn-Saaad.
These are called “Muqatt’aat letters”, Allah Almighty knows meanings of these
kinds of letters or may be that into them, there is an indication towards the
content of concerning Chapter, that is to say, Grace of Allah Almighty and
Guidance from Him for His Believers who worship Him and who are His truthful servants.
‘Ishta-‘ala – (burst forth
into flame). it is past tense from the word “‘Ishta-‘aal”, which has
come out from sha-‘a-la. Shu’-lah means “flame of the fire. ‘Ishta-‘aal
means “burning, glowing, lighting a fire or candle etc.” because from this word
“spreading” comes in mind, so spreading of grey hair on the head has been
manifested with the word “‘Ishta-‘aal”.
After Prophet Moses (peace be upon
him), many Prophets (peace be upon them) were sent unto the Children of Israel.
One of them was Zachariah (peace be upon him) and His son John (peace be upon
him). Their circumstances were explained in Surah ‘Aali – ‘Imraan. Surah
Maryam had been revealed before it in Makkah. No child was born in
the house of Zachariah (peace be upon him) till old age. He longed for a son,
so that the work of instructing the public unto the straight path may be
continued by the members of his family. He (peace be upon him) prayed secretly
in privacy: O my Lord! I have reached old age. My bones have become feeble and
the hair grey. My Lord! I have come unto You with a desire. During past as and
when I prayed, You supplied my every want, and You did never return me from
Your Door deprived of any wish.
