Chapter Kahf (The
Cave) – 18
‘A-‘uu-zu
Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

فَمَا ٱسْطَٰعُوٓا۟ أَن يَظْهَرُوهُ وَمَا ٱسْتَطَٰعُوا۟ لَهُۥ نَقْبًا 97
قَالَ هَٰذَا رَحْمَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّى فَإِذَا جَآءَ وَعْدُ رَبِّى جَعَلَهُۥ دَكَّآءَ وَكَانَ وَعْدُرَبِّى حَقًّا 98
97.
And (Gog and Magog) were not able to surmount, nor could they pierce
(it).
98.
He said: This is a mercy from my Lord, but when the promise of my Lord
cometh to pass, He will lay it low, for the promise of my Lord is true.

97. Famastaa-‘uuu ‘any-yaz-haruuhu wa
mastataa-‘uu la-huu naqbaa.
98. Qaala haazaa
rahmatum-mir-Rabbii. Fa-‘izaa jaaa-‘a
wa’-du Rabbii ja-‘alahuu
dak-kaaa’. Wa kaana
wa’du Rabbii haqqaa.

Commentary
‘Istaa-‘uu and ‘istataa-‘uu
are the same words. In the first word “ta” has been dropped. It is used
in both kinds. In the Section before this, (both) words - tastii-‘u and tastatii-‘u
were used as its aorist {(Gram) the name of certain tenses in the Greek verb
expressing indefinite time}. It is a past tense from the word ‘isttitaa-‘atun,
origin of which is “sata-‘a”. Sata-’a means “wheedling”. It aims “strength”
also. By this meaning, it has become ‘istitaa-‘atun which means “to have
power”.
Naqbun – (to pierce the wall, digging through
the wall),
Dak-kaaa-’a – (to lay anything
low), this word has been derived from dakkun, which means “to make a
thing leveled by breaking it into pieces”. Dakkaaa-‘a means “the thing,
which has been broken into pieces”.
According to own sense of Dhu’l-Qarneyn,
as he constructed the wall between two mountains, after completion; it had
become too much strong and firm that Gog and Magog were rendered helpless in
breaking it. Due to its height, being flat and spot, neither there was anything
to catch with hand and nor any place of standing firmly, and nor they were able
to climb on the wall. When it was prepared, Alexander thanked God Almighty that
He took from him a work of comforting to His slaves. Alexander thought: It is
obvious that which great service for mankind I provided, it was His Grace and Generosity,
otherwise; I am only a handful dust. I have nothing my own; but everything is
bestowed by Him. He is my Lord Who gave me sense. It is apparent that certainly
on a Day, the world shall be ruined and everything in it will be removed, and at
that time; this wall too; which has been prepared with iron pieces, will be
broken in small pieces. And I am sure that such Time will come because it is Promise
of Lord.
