Sanction for fighting
Chapter “Hajj”
– (The Pilgrimage) - 22
‘A-‘uu-zu Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)
Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

أُذِنَ لِلَّذِينَ يُقَٰتَلُونَ بِأَنَّهُمْظُلِمُوا۟ وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ نَصْرِهِمْ لَقَدِيرٌ 39
ٱلَّذِينَ أُخْرِجُوا۟ مِن دِيَٰرِهِم بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّ إِلَّآ أَن يَقُولُوا۟ رَبُّنَا ٱللَّهُ وَلَوْلَا دَفْعُ ٱللَّهِ ٱلنَّاسَ بَعْضَهُم بِبَعْضٍ لَّهُدِّمَتْ صَوَٰمِعُ وَبِيَعٌ وَصَلَوَٰتٌ وَمَسَٰجِدُ يُذْكَرُ فِيهَاٱسْمُ ٱللَّهِ كَثِيرًا وَلَيَنصُرَنَّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَنصُرُهُۥٓ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَقَوِىٌّ عَزِيزٌ 40

39. Sanction (to fight)
is given unto those who are fought against, because they have been wronged.
And Allah is indeed Able to give them victory –
40a. Those who have
been driven from their homes unjustly only because they said: Our Lord is
Allah.

39. ‘Uzina lillaziina
yuqaata-luuna bi-‘annahum zulimuu.
Wa ‘innAllaaha ‘alaa
nasrihim la-Qadiir.
40a. ‘Allaziina ‘ukhrijuu
min- diyaarihim- bi-gayri
haqqin ‘illaaa ‘any-yaquuluu RabbunAllaah.

Commentary
First thirteen years of Prophet-hood, which the last Messenger
of Allaah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him)
passed in Makkah, were very tough for the Muslims. Refractory people of Makkah
oppressed them openly in every respect. Beating and striking were customary
matters. It seems easy to hear, “causing to lie down with naked bodies on hot
stones and burning sand, putting fiery stones on the breasts, blocking food and
water, withdrawing from friendly intercourse and cutting off the relationships”,
but the people who suffer really from these afflictions, they know it well. During
severe hot season, when a person walks on the stony fiery floor of the Mosque’s
courtyard, his soles of feet are scorched by heat. What will be condition of
that person who is caused to lie down on that floor without shirt? The lovers
of the Belief endured all such troubles, but they did not mourn. They were
commanded: Undergo all afflictions which you receive from the Infidels, but don’t
fight!
Eventually, when by compulsion they took shelter in Madinah
after leaving their homes, then they returned to their senses. At that time, it
was commanded: Fight those oppressors and don’t care about the deficiency of your
manpower strength. We have Power to help you. They banished you from your
houses without any suitable reason, whereas you did never hurt them. Your only
work was that you believed in Allaah Almighty as your Lord, and refused
from adoring the idols.
Known from it; is that living together in the world is
necessary. For this purpose, it is sufficient that no one should misbehave with
any other in any matter. Fighting mutually upon the faiths of one another is
against the humanity. One may fight against only those people who tyrannize
others and wish to keep them as own slaves.
