Solomon to understand (the case); and unto each of them We gave judgment and

Commentary
The Children of Israel chose Prophet David (peace be upon him)
as their King. Prophet Solomon (peace be upon him) was his son. Prophet David
(peace be upon him) was a wise ruler, but Allaah Almighty had bestowed
extraordinary intelligence and wisdom to Solomon (peace be upon him).
In this verse, it has been described about a case; which was
judged by David (peace be upon him), then Solomon (peace be upon him) pointed
out unto a very little and important matter, due to which; David (peace be upon
him) took back own decision and settled the case according to judgment of
Solomon (peace be upon him).
One person’s flock of sheep had strayed in the field of another by
night; and browsed his field of crop. Owner of the field filed a suit in the
court of David (peace be upon him). He (peace be upon him) gave decision that
the flock of the sheep should be handed over to the owner of the crop’s field.
Solomon (peace be upon him) said that the owner of the field
should possess the flock of sheep and reap advantage from it, but the master of
the flock should sow in his field again, and when the crop reaches the same
condition, then he should return the field to its owner and take back his flock
of sheep. David (peace be upon him) liked this judgment, changed own decision
and settled the case in accordance with the judgment of Solomon (peace be upon
him). They both (peace be upon them) were sensible, but at this occasion; Allaah
Almighty caused to understand the right matter to Solomon (peace be upon him).
