This is twentieth Chapter of Holy Qur’an in accord with
arrangement order and it contains eight Sections. It was revealed in the
primary times of Islam during stay at Makkah. It has been recorded that
one day; Umar (May Allah be pleased with him), who had not embraced
Islam so far, was enraged, caught the sword and came out with the intention
that he should kill Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him)
and finish this wrangling; by which the dissension among the people of Qureish
has arisen and an insult of their gods has begun to offer.
In the way, a familiar person met; who prevented from this plan
and said: You should be informed at first about the members of your family. Your
sister Fatimah daughter of Khitab and her husband Saeed son of Zayd;
who is your cousin too, they both have become Muslims. After hearing this, Umar
(May Allah be pleased with him) departed for the house of his sister being
enraged. At her house, at that time, a companion of the Messenger (grace,
glory, blessings and peace be upon him), named Khubaab son of ‘Art
was also present along with his sister and brother in law (May Allah be pleased
with them), who was causing to hear them by reciting the Chapter (Surah)
Taa-Haa, which was written on a slip of paper. Ears of Umar (May
Allah be pleased with him) caught some sound of his recitation, but when Khubaab
(May Allah be pleased with him) saw coming him, he hid in a corner. And his
sister concealed the slip of paper in her lap. As soon as Umar (May
Allah be pleased with him) entered in the house; he asked: “What were you
people reciting? I have heard that you have accepted Islam”. Then he began to
beat his sister even that wounded her. When Umar (May Allah be pleased
with him) saw shedding blood, he stopped beating and said: Show me that what
were you reciting.
Umar (May Allah be pleased with him) was a learned person. His sister
got affirmation first from him that he will not destroy the slip of paper. Then
after his taking bath and purifying his body, that slip of paper was given to
him; in which Surah Taa-Haa was written. After reciting it he became
very impressive. Looking this, Khubaab (May Allah be pleased with him)
came out also and said: Certainly the supplication of the Messenger (grace,
glory, blessings and peace be upon him) in your favor has been accepted. He (grace,
glory, blessings and peace be upon him) prayed in the Court of Allah Almighty
that if any one (from Umar and Abu Jahal) embraced Islam then
condition of the Muslims would become better. Umar (May Allah be pleased
with him) went and was at the service of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings
and peace be upon him) along with them and embraced Islam. Then fearlessly he visited
the Enclosure of the Temple of Makkah and offered prayer before all
people. It was the courage which still was not into the Muslims. After that he (May
Allah be pleased with him) served Islam as much that it cannot be explained.
In this Chapter, after describing about the Attributes of Allah
Almighty, the Messenger-hood has been proved, and consequence of opposing the
Prophets (peace be upon them) has been shown to the mankind, and the people
have been induced to collect the provisions in the world for the Day of
Resurrection.
