Ignorance from the Portents

Surah Yuusuf (Joseph) - 12

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

وَكَأَيِّن مِّنْ ءَايَةٍ فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ يَمُرُّونَ عَلَيْهَا وَهُمْ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضُونَ 105

وَمَا يُؤْمِنُ أَكْثَرُهُم بِٱللَّهِ إِلَّا وَهُم مُّشْرِكُونَ 106

105.  How many a portent is there in the heavens and the earth which they pass by with face averted! 106.  And most of them believe not in Allah except that they attribute partners (unto Him)

105.  Wa  ka-‘ayyim-min  ‘Aaya-tin-  fis-samaa-waati  wal-  ‘arzi  yamurruuna  ‘alayhaa  wa  hum  ‘anhaa  mu’-rizuun. 106.  Wa  maa  yu’-minu  ‘ak-sa-ruhum-  Billaahi  ‘illaa  wa  hum  mushri-kuun.

   

Commentary

Ka-‘ayyin (many), in Arabic language, this word is also used for “a little, less, a smaller portion” to show measure or quantity.

Due to opposite behavior and oppression, the Infidels of Makkah are being reproached. It is commanded that as they falsified the verses of Holy Qur’aan, they put other portents of Allah Almighty behind their back too, which have been spreading all around them in the heavens and the earth. Their only wish is that chieftainship and greatness should remain into them. They think: If we believed in Allah Almighty; then our splendor and pomp would come to an end. Presently; our gods are of our use. If we gave up them and began to adore one God, then present entire system, which is useful for us, would become useless.

Desire, lust and ambition of the world have surmounted them, and they consider due to their stupidity that all worldly works; which were being performed (according to them) by so many gods collectively, how can One God do? Besides the Holy Qur’aan, abundant portents, which have been spreading in the universe, do not absorb mental consideration of them. Even maximum of them believe in Allah Almighty, but certainly they attribute others also as partners unto Him.
