Commentary
‘Awwibii – (Repeat! Echo! Imitate closely!), this
is a word of command from ‘awbun, which means “to come back, to
incline”. Taawiibun means “to accompany, to travel in day time”. Here it
aims “to imitate someone in reading”.
wat-Tayr – (and to the birds), the aim from it is: Wa ‘amarNat-tayr, that is to say, We
commanded to the birds as We commanded to the mountains that they also should repeat Our praises with him { David (peace be
upon him)}.
‘AlanNaa – (We made supple, pliable, flexible), it
is past tense from the word ‘ilaanatun, which has been derived from liin.
Liin means “to become pliant, softness”.
Sardun – (to calculate precisely the
links, to join together), it aims “to make a big thing by connecting little
things mutually”. Qad-dir
fis-sardi means “you should connect the things with measurement”.
Allaah Almighty draws attention of human beings towards His Perfect
Divine Power, so that they should establish correct conception concerning Him
and His Attributes, and should not have any doubt in His Commandments. It is
commanded: We gave David (peace be upon him) bounty and excellence. And We said
to the mountains and the birds that when he (peace be upon him) recite psalms
of Our praise in melodious sound; then they also should repeat Our praise with
him.
Moreover, We made the iron soft for him (peace be upon him), so
that he may make its rings, connect those rings together correctly and with due
proportion, and prepare full coats of mail. Then
We commanded him (peace be upon him) that being busy in these works, he
should not forget doing good works. Bear in mind! Allaah Almighty has
been watching your entire deeds.
