Commentary
It was described in the previous verse that Holy Qur’an,
which has been sent down in the world by means of Muhammad, the Messenger of Allaah
Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), it is the greatest
Token of his Messenger-hood, because in it; summary of all former Scriptures
has been recorded. The commandments which were necessary for betterment of the
mankind, those entire have been entered in it. And which commandments had lost
their importance due to changes of times, have been superseded.
Allaah Almighty commands: In the presence of this so much great Token,
do they desire now any other Token of the truth of the Messenger (grace, glory,
blessings and peace be upon him)? In fact, their hearts have been entangled in
the amusements of the world, which seek pretences of accepting not the Truth. If
We had not sent this Magnificent Book i.e. Holy Qur’an; and We had
destroyed them with some torment due to their wicked deeds, then they would
have screamed that any Messenger would have been sent unto them before sending
the torment, so that he would have frightened them from the punishment and
explained the ways of escaping from it. “If any such Messenger would have come
along with a Scripture, then indispensably we would have obeyed his saying. And
we would have been saved from disgrace and baseness of the torment.”
In short, amusements of the world have inclined these people. They
demand more token after the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be
upon him) and Holy Qur’an.
