48. Allah is He Who
sendeth the winds so that they raise clouds, and spreadeth them along the sky
as pleaseth Him, and causeth them to break and thou seest the rain
down-pouring from within them. Then when He maketh it to fall on whom He will
of His bondmen, lo! they rejoice.
49. Though before that,
even before it was sent down upon them, they were in despair.

Commentary
‘In – (certainly, though, although), this word is an abbreviation
of ‘inna.
Mublisiina – (in despair, to be disappointed,
hopeless), it is the Subject from the word ‘ablaas, which means “to
disappoint and to despair”.
Relief after affliction and comfort after ailment are manners of
the world, which have been established by Allaah Almighty. If you wish
to understand it, you should meditate on descending of the rain of mercy after
the severity of heat and dryness. The people had been confusing due to severity
of the heat and the earth had been scorching. Mean while Allaah Almighty
sent seasonal winds along with clouds. Then clouds were fixed upon one another,
and it began to rain from them. Some time earlier the weather was very hot,
people were confounded and they had become hopeless. As soon as it began to
rain, their faces began to be in bloom and they began to enjoy. While you have
seen this occasion by your own eyes then why do you not understand that the
calamity is only for a few days? Good days will come soon, signs of which have
begun. After some days, Islam will overcome and the enemies will be defeated.
