They will not accept without torment

Chapter Mu’-minuun” – (The Believers) - 23

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

75.  And even if We had mercy on them and relieved them of the harm afflicting them, they still would wander blindly on in their contumacy.

76.  And already have We grasped them with punishment, but they humble not themselves unto their Lord, nor do they pray.

77.  Until, when We open for them the gate of extreme punishment, behold! they will be aghast thereat.
75.  Wa  law  rahimNaahum  wa  kashafNaa  maa  bihim-min-  zur-ril-lalajjuu  fii  tugyaanihim  ya-mahuun.

76.  Wa  laqad  ‘akhazNaahum  bil-‘Azaabi  famastakaanuu  li-Rabbihim  wa  maa  yatazarra-‘uun.

77.  Hattaaa  ‘izaa  fatahNaa  ‘alayhim  baaban  zaa  ‘azaabin  shadiidin  ‘izaa  hum  fiihi  mubli-suun.
(Section 4)

Commentary

Lajjuu – (they rushed in), it is past tense from the word lajjun, which means “to assault suddenly”. The word lajaajat has been derived from the same, which means “jumble-ness”.

Mubli-suuna – (to be aghast), this word is plural of mublisun, which has come out from ‘iblaasun. Origin of this word is balsun, which means “despair”. ‘Iblaasun means “to be quiet due to being disappointed”.

It is commanded: When any mishap comes upon them, they begin to become confused. Then, when We remove that misfortune, they begin to violate again and are engaged themselves completely in wicked deeds like mad and blind people. We sent upon them disasters like dearth etc. so that they should incline unto Us and give up rebellion. But their hearts did not accept. They had to show their humbleness before their Lord, implore before Him earnestly and humbly, but they did not feel. Eventually it was the consequence of such insistence that a door of severe torment was opened upon them. Some of them were slain in battles by the hands of Muslims and some were imprisoned. They were driven away from their homeland. Their entire airs had gone. Hopelessness enclosed them. Their confidence broke from all sides and they were thrown into the File of the Hell in the Hereafter.
