Commentary
Jaahiduu – (you should strive), it is a word of
command from jihad, origin of which is jahad. Jahad means “to
work hard in any work, to endure hardship”.
It was commanded to the Believers in the previous verse: If
other people do not believe in Allaah Almighty but consider that other
things are their supporters and those fulfill their wishes, then you should
leave them at their own and think about yourselves. Your success in the both
worlds is in it that you should bow before Allaah Almighty and worship
Him. Do good works for His pleasure.
In this verse, there are some more instructions that you should
try your best, sacrifice yourselves and your wealth in obedience of Allaah’s
commandments for success and prestige of Islam. It is a great favor of Allaah
Almighty that He has chosen you for His work from the entire people of the
world. And the Way of work, which He has determined for you, is entirely easy. In
it, there is no any such instruction, obedience of which may be difficult. There
are permissions and remissions in every work, in addition to having regards for
facilities. Moreover, this way of work is not strange for you. It is the same
Way which was established in the world by your forefather Abraham (peace be
upon him) in accordance with Our Commandment. He named the followers of this
Way “Muslims” by Our Commandment and the same name has been retained by Holy Qur’an
for you. Therefore, It is the same old religion, Instructions of which you
should obey.
