9b. Their messengers
came unto them with clear proofs, but they thrust their hands into their
mouths, and said: Lo! We disbelieve in that wherewith ye have been sent, and
lo! We are in grave doubt concerning that to which ye call us.

Commentary
Radduuu
‘ay-diya-hum fiii ‘afwaa-hihim – word for word translation of it is “they thrust their hands into their
mouths”.
It is commanded: They continued fulfilling
their desires, and when Our Messengers (peace be upon them) brought unto them
the truth, then after hearing it, some mischievous people of them were beside
themselves with anger, and they began to put their hands in their mouths for
nipping with teeth being enraged. Some of them put their hands on mouths and
began to laugh; looking down upon the Messengers (peace be upon them). Some
impudent people indicated Them (peace be upon them) by putting their hands on
mouths “Don’t say as You are going to say and be quite”.
In short, every one of them opposed the
Messengers (peace be upon them) according to own manner and began to say
clearly: We do not believe in that which you have brought for causing to
understand us, considering yourself greater than our people. It is clear that
our hearts do not accept it. We have so many doubts in your Sayings that we
feel ourselves in distraction, when we listen to you. We like only those
traditions and customs, which we saw in our ancestors.
