entered in the manner which their father had enjoined, it would have naught
availed them as against Allah; it was but a need of Jacob’s soul which he
thus satisfied. And lo! He was a lord of knowledge because We had taught him;
but most of mankind know not.

Commentary
The sons of Prophet
Jacob (peace be upon him) did not enter in the city from one gate, but they
obeyed as their Father (peace be upon him) commanded them and entered from
different gates. The people of the city did not know that their caravan had
entered in the city. Then it is commanded: That happens what God Almighty
approves.
They acted upon
that which was taught to them by Jacob (peace be upon him). That is to say; in
the world of causes, the human being should not give up planning and care, but
along with it, he should not have full trust in the causes only, but see also unto
Allah Almighty for help. It is in the practice of those chosen servants of God
Almighty in the world whom He gives knowledge. But maximum people go astray by
being entangled in superabundance and shortage. Some are those who rely upon
causes only and they forget entirely the Creator of all things including them.
But some are those who sit in a corner by giving up the causes and think that
Allah Almighty will make their all works operative without practice. But the
correct way is that which is in between these both doctrines.
