In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the
Merciful
130. And We
straitened Pharaoh’s folk with famine and dearth of fruits, that peradventure
they might heed.
131. So whenever
good befell them, they said: This is ours; and whenever evil smote them they
scribed it to the evil auspices of Moses and those with him. Surely their
evil auspice was only with Allah, but most of them knew not.

Lesson
Si-niina – (years),
this word is plural of sanatun, which
means “a year”. The meaning from “straitening since years” is that “famine and
dearth of fruits used to come on them every year”.
Yat-tayyaruu – (took bad
omens, foreboding), origin of this word is tayyarun,
which has been derived from tayr. Tayr
means “bird”. Those people used to take bad omens by means of the birds, so the
meaning of yat-tayyaruu
has become “to take omen”.
They used to
take omens in such way that: If someone devised to do any work but any bird
flew away from front, they used to say: Now we shall not do this work, because
flying of any bird at the time of correct work; is a bad symptom. The word Taa-‘ir has been made from it also,
which means a bird, that is why; it also aims “misfortune, foreboding and
wretchedness”.
Allah Almighty
commands: We sent down the disaster of famine on the nation of Pharaoh. Fruits
became scarce in the cities. Its actual object was that they should fear and
become human. But their brazen soared over. If there was good condition, they
used to say: It must be so, because we are honorable and decent people. There
is no reason of disaster’s coming on us.
If any
misfortune befell on them; they used to say: It entire (Let us flee to God) is
adversity of Moses (peace be upon Him) and His nation, effect of which; we have
to suffer. Whereas the Children of Israel were safe from every kind of disaster
due to the blessing of Prophet Moses (peace be upon Him), and which disaster
used to come down, that was on the people of Pharaoh only.
Those foolish
people could not understand that this all was result of their own wicked deeds,
which was being sent by Allah Almighty. Keeping in good condition and trapping
in bad condition; both are in the power of Allah Almighty. And He keeps someone
in good condition and someone in worse according to His customized expediency.
His aim from it is that the people should learn. Calamity and comfort both have
this virtue that they provide chance for the human being for turning unto the Real
Master (God Almighty).
