Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

52.  And We inspired Moses, saying: Take away My slaves by night, for ye will be pursued.

53.  Then Pharaoh sent into the cities summoners –

54.  (Who said): Lo! these indeed are but a little troop –

55.  And lo! they are offenders against us.

56.  And lo! we are a ready host.
52.  Wa  ‘awhayNaaa  ‘ilaa  Muu-saaa  ‘an  ‘asri  bi-‘ibaadiii  ‘inna-kum-muttaba-‘uun.

53.  Fa-‘arsala  Fir-‘awnu  fil-Madaaa-‘ini  haashiriin.

54.  ‘Inna  haaa-‘ulaaa-‘i  lashir-zimatun  qaliiluun.

55.  Wa  ‘innahum  lanaa  lagaaa-‘izuun.

56.  Wa  ‘innaa  lajamii-‘un  haa-ziruun.

Commentary

Shir-zimatun – (a little troop), it is such group of people who are not more in numbers.

Gaaa-‘izuuna – (offenders, those who enrage), this word is plural of gaa-‘iz, which has come out from gayz. Gayz means “such behavior which enrages the other, to irritate, to offend”.

Haa-ziruuna – (a ready host, those who have power and possess war equipment). This word is the subject and plural from haazir, which has been derived from the word hazar. Hazar means “preparation for war”.

It is commanded: When the wizards admitted their defeat from Moses (peace be upon him), even then Pharaoh did not refrain from his rebellion. He and his people did not give up oppressing the Children of Israel, then Allaah Almighty revealed unto Moses (peace be upon him): Take away from Egypt My oppressed slaves by night towards the Sea! Pharaoh will certainly pursue you along with his Army. You must not be afraid of them.

Agreeably to the Commandment, Moses (peace be upon him) went away from the township by night along with the Children of Israel and turned towards the Sea. When Pharaoh heard this, he sent his servants to gather the people and said: A little group of the Children of Israel has confused us very much and has been enraging us constantly. We are not too much weak. We have all things like manpower and war equipment. Now we shall not leave them but finish.
