‘Amsaala – (similitudes), this word is plural of masala.
Masala is used for the thing which is similar to any other, and that
thing is brought forth for explaining about the original.
Maximum people of Arab used to try to lessen the importance of
the Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) for
saving their own way intentionally or due to unknowingly. Sometime they used to
say: He invented himself false fables and named them Qur’an. Sometime
they used to utter: Fables of the men of old which he has had written down so
that they are dictated to him morning and evening, which he recites and repeats
before the people. Sometime they used to form their opinion: You are following
a man who has been bewitched, so he talks nonsense. Some people say: He himself
is a sourcerer, a person who inquires from the Jinn and reveals unseen, or a poet;
who according to them; was under the influence of any Jinn. Some of them said
that he was a lunatic. In short, they used to determine that he has no place
among the people of higher class.
It is commanded: Did you see that these people coin different
similitudes for explaining before others concerning your position and wish to prove
that you are equal to any of them? Remembering you with different names and
coining different similitudes is the evidence that they have been confused and
know that you are really a true person. They have been perplexed that what
should they do?
It is obvious that their carelessness or stubbornness will be
cause of their drowning. They have gone entirely astray. It cannot be hoped
from such people that they will be able to set up correct opinion. Their selfishnesses
have made them mad. They desire that their ancient way should remain
established, and no one should listen to you. How can such people find the
Straight Path?
