36. Lo! the number of the months with Allah is
twelve months by Allah’s Ordinance in the day that He created the heavens and
the earth, four of them are sacred. That is the right religion; so wrong not
yourselves in them; and wage war on all of the idolaters as they are waging
war on all of you. And know that Allah is with those who keep their duty

‘Al-Qay-yimu – (the Right, Straight, Mighty), the origin of this word is Qawm,
which means “to stand straight”. Any group of people is also called “Qawm”,
because qawm (a nation), group or community is a medium of making the
circumstances straight and established. Qay-yim is an adjective, which means
“a strong and straight thing” also as well as, which strengthens and
straightens the other thing. Here, the aim from this word is - first meaning.
Kaaaf-fatan – (fully, totally), this word was discussed in Surah
‘Al-Baqarah. Its origin is k-f-f, which means “to take hold”. When a group
or nation becomes so united that its every member becomes supporter of every
other person and a part of the group, and then all those people work together,
then it is called “working with collective strength. In Arabic language, such
condition is disclosed by saying Kaaaf-fatan.
In the previous verses, it has been being described since long that the
Jews and the Christians have damaged their religion, and choose the way
established by their elders, leaving the Way of God Almighty. This is a
Command, which they broke.
