Surah ‘A’-RAAF (The Heights) – Chapter – 7)
Stage – 2, Verse – 176b of 206, Section – 22 of
24 (Part - 9)
BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the
Merciful
Such is the likeness of the people who deny Our
Revelations. So narrate unto them the history (of the men of old), that haply
they may take thought.

Lesson
Masa-lu – this word
has many meanings – likeness, agreement or similarity in certain respects
between things otherwise different, resemblance, analogous (to), similitude, conformity,
or such condition which is applicable upon many forms etc.
Faqsus – it is a word
of command which has been derived from qasas,
qissah is from it also which means “a tale, a story, a fable, narration,
dispute etc. Qasas means “to narrate,
to follow after someone. Here it aims “to narrate”.
‘Al-qasasa - it is a simple noun which means “a story,
condition, a tale”. It is wrong to consider it as plural of qissah but plural of qissah is qisas.
Circumstances of
such individual were narrated in the previous verses who was given knowledge of
God’s Revelations by Him, but due to greed of casual benefits of the world, he
chose the path of straying by giving up these Revelations. The reason was that the
desire of worldly riches had made him blind and he was prepared to fulfill the
demands of his wishes without let or hindrance. The science and knowledge did
not give him any advantage, although it was laden over him like a burden. He was
like a dog who would have to pant whether he is loaded or unloaded. His evil
habits brought him unto straying. If he did not have knowledge, even then; he
would have done the same, and while he had knowledge, he committed the same. Even;
that Allah Almighty loosened him. If He willed, He would have made him a man of
high dignity by means of his science, but his worldly greediness overcame him, then
he was worthless, dead and gone.
Allah Almighty
commands in this verse that it is not for any one particular individual, but
those all people are like him who falsify Our Revelations. Their inner
wickedness causes them to be sunk. They know everything but accept nothing. They
consider that this world only is everything whereas they do not give any
importance to the Hereafter. Though; the Messengers of Allah Almighty (peace be
upon Them) admonish them as much as they can. Whether the Revelations of God
Almighty shake them by calling again and again, neither their eyes are opened
from the dream of carelessness and nor they learn from the admonitory
circumstances of others. Even then, O Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and
peace be upon Him)! You should continue narrating unto them the circumstances
of old people and reminding them their sorrowful consequence. From this; it may
be expected that haply some thought may be born in their heart and they begin
to use their sense. Otherwise, after closing advice and admonition, there can
be no other hope for them except their ruin and destruction.
This verse is
a whip for those people who say about themselves that they are scholars. They should
act upon their knowledge carefully and show themselves by their word and deed; to
others; as a good example.
