Place of gratitude and patience

Surah Huud (Hud) - 11

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

10.  And if We cause him to taste grace after some misfortune that had befallen him, he saith: The ills have gone from me. Lo! He is exultant, boastful- 11.  Save those who persevere and do good works. Theirs will be forgiveness and a great reward.

10.  Wa  la-‘in  ‘azaq-Naahu  na’-maaa-‘a  ba’-da  zarraaa-‘a  mas-sat-hu  la-yaquu-lanna  zahabas-sayyi-‘aatu  ‘annii.  ‘Innahuu  lafarihun-  fakhuur. 11.  ‘Illal-laziina  sabaruu  wa  ‘amilus—saali-haat.  ‘Ulaaa-‘ika  lahum-mag-firatunw-wa  ‘ajrun-  Kabiir.

Commentary

It is commanded that when misfortune is removed and prosperity comes, at that time, the human being loses his senses and says: Now the time is of taste and pleasure. The ills and difficulties have gone from me. I have gotten rid of confusions, because I worked hard, earned wealth and suffered from pains. It is my right which have I received.

On one side, being much confused due to any very ordinary trouble, saying words of despair, turning away from Allah Almighty, and on the other side; being overjoyed at the time of pleasure and ease, boasting, exulting, and considering that “it is the result of my cleverness”, are common matters in the mankind. But from this all; his ignorance appears and meanness is disclosed.

It is known clearly that these both matters does not suit to the mankind, but have been tumbled down from his grade. The human being should never let his dignity; perseverance and endurance lose in any condition. He should neither be distressed in mind during ills and nor lose his senses during prosperity. Suitable manner for him is that he should push steadily on against difficulty or opposition. He should do the same works during both conditions i.e. misfortune and prosperity; which suit to his grade and dignity; and about which the wise people say “good works”. Errors and slipping of such people will be forgiven, and for them; there will be satisfaction of the heart in the world and a great reward in the next life.

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

9.  And if We cause man to taste some Mercy from Us and afterward withdraw it from him, lo! He is despairing, thankless.

9.  Wa  la-‘in  ‘azaq-Nal-‘insaana  minnaa  Rahmatan-  summa  naza’-Naahaa  minh.  ‘Innahuu  laya-‘uusun-  kafuur.

Commentary

Laya-‘uusun – (despairing), this word is an adjective from yaas. Yaas means “to lose hope, to be hopeless. The person who loses his hope; is called ya-‘uus.

We can guess about the Divine Power of Allah Almighty from it that He created this entire world and completed it step by step. Then He explained about the purpose of the world’s creation, that this entire work of God Almighty has been established to try the human beings. Here; he will continue working during his all worldly life and then die. After death, he will be brought to life again and will be punished or given reward; fruit of his wicked or good deeds.

In this verse and the verse after it, a map of his natural weakness has been drawn. If he did not take precautions against his weakness; then there is a fear of his failure in the examination.

Summary of it is that he remains overjoyed during good condition, but whenever he feels any confusion (whether that confusion or perplexity is very ordinary), he is embarrassed immediately. Despair spreads over him and he begins to think about Allah Almighty with false notions, even he reaches to such degree that disbelieves in Him. These are signs of failure in the examination.

It has often been observed that the man believes in Allah Almighty during prosperity and thanks Him that He gave him wealth and property; and remains happy, but as soon as he reaps a little disadvantage, begins to cry immediately and say: that has happened which was to be. Then neither he establishes prayer, nor thanks God Almighty and nor any passion in worship. Moreover, the words of thankless begin to come out from his mouth.

This all is result of it that he does not have correct concept of the things which were described before it. He does not know true purpose of the world’s creation. Condition of this world is changed from time to time, so he should understand it thoroughly that the aim from these revolutionary changes is “testing his belief, patience and stability”. Prosperity and wealth is only for the cause that Allah Almighty tries His caliph on the earth (mankind) that “how he uses them”. He observes also during poverty and hardship that “whether does he stand firm even in this situation or otherwise”? All conditions of the world are accidental.

8.  And if We delay for them the doom until a reckoned time, they will surely say: What withholdeth it? Verily on the day when it cometh unto them, it cannot be averted from them, and that which they deride will surround them.

8.  Wa  la-‘in  ‘akh-kharNaa  ‘an-humul-‘azaaba  ‘ilaaa  ‘umma-tim-ma’-duudatil-la-yaquu-lunna  maa  yah-bisuh.  ‘Alaa  yaw-ma  ya’-tiihim  lay-sa  mas-ruufan  ‘anhum  wa  haaqa  bihim-maa  kaanuu  bihii  yas-tahzi-‘uun.  (Next Section 2)

Commentary

‘Umma-tun – (reckoned, collection, nation), this word has been discussed earlier, however; its actual meaning is “the objects in a bulk or lump”. Here it aims “collection of the both, which is called “length of time” also.

Haaqa – (will surround), this word is from hay-qun, which means “to surround, to fall to one’s lot suddenly”.

It was described previously that this world is an examination hall for the mankind, as though; after providing all necessary powers; he has been let go in the field. There are many things around him. God Almighty desires to observe him “how he takes work from those things”. There are many ways of using them, but in the Knowledge of Allah Almighty, only one way is right, and by sending His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him); He has guided unto that way also. The person who will follow that guidance, his life will be pure from misfortunes. But the individual who will ignore that guidance and choose any other way, he will suffer from the doom. This torment may be given more or less; even in this life, but if he is not punished here due to any reason, then certainly, he will have to face it after death.

After hearing these Sayings from the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him); the people; entangled in the worldly matters; began to mock Him and said: Is it believable that we shall be brought to life again after death?

Allah Almighty commands in this verse: If We delay the doom from them until a reckoned period, they say! Why has it been withheld? They are being replied: Listen! On the day when it will come unto you, it will not be averted from you. And today; which you have been deriding, that doom will fall suddenly upon you and you will be surrounded into it.

7.  And He it is Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days –and His Throne was upon the Water- in order that He might try you, which of you is best in conduct. And if thou (O Muhammad) sayest: Lo! Ye will be raised again after death! Those who disbelieve will surely say: This is not but evident magic.

7.  Wa  Huwal-lazii  khala-qas-samaawaati  wal-‘arza  fii  Sittati  ‘ayyaa-minw-wa  kaana  ‘Arshu-Huu  ‘alal-Maaa-‘i  li-yablu-wakum  ‘ayyu-kum  ‘ahsanu  ‘amalaa.  Wa  la-‘in-  qulta  ‘inna-kum-  mab-‘uusuuna  mim-  ba’-dil-mawti  la-ya-quulan-nal-laziina  kafaruuu  ‘in  haa-zaa  ‘illaa  sihrum-mubiin.

Commentary

It has been commanded in the verse that the Empyrean of Allah Almighty was on the Water, where His Throne did exist and from where He issues Orders. Maaa’ is a very long and broad river of atoms, which shakes or stays according to those Orders. The scientists have discovered now that origin of the world depends on only two things; force i.e. energy and matter. In accordance with Holy Qur’aan, the Energy is the Empyrean (‘Arsh) and the Matter is the Water (Maaa’).

Allah Almighty has fixed the circle of working of the both (the Energy and the Matter) separately. These both things are under His Divine Power. From them, ‘Arsh is “the subject and Maaa’ is unobtrusive. In other words, the first is “efficacious” and the second is “impressive”. ‘Arsh or Energy produces motion by the Command of Allah Almighty, whereas Maaa’ or the atoms of the Matter shake and be separate according to motion. Arrangement of the entire material world has been running on the same command and carrying out the command.

This verse of Holy Qur’aan described that these all are Wonders of God’s Omnipotence. The aim from it is; the trial of the mankind that “whether by observing it; he knows his Creator or otherwise, and according to His Will; he performs good works or not”? Allah Almighty commands to His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) that he should say to the people: The fundamental thing is “your deeds”. You will be given life again after death for computation of your good and bad acts, and reward and punishment for you will be according to them. Condition of these people is astonishing. They say to the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) after hearing this: This is not but evident magic.

Surah Huud (Hud) - 11

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

6.  And there is not a beast in the earth but the sustenance thereof dependeth on Allah and He knoweth its habitation and its repository. All is in the Luminous Book.

6.  WA  MAA  MIN-  DAAAB-BATIN-  fil-‘arzi  ‘illaa  ‘alAllaahi  rizqu-haa  wa  ya’-lamu  musta-qarra-haa  wa  mus-taw-da-‘ahaa.  Kullun-  fii  Kitaabim-Mubiin.

Commentary

DAAAB-BATIN – (a beast), it is “the subject” from the word “dabbun”. It aims “every such living being which needs sustenance”. Musta-qarrun  wa  mus-taw-da-‘a – (habitation and repository). First word is from ‘istaq-raar, which has come out from qaraar, second word is from ‘istii-daa’, which has been derived from the word wadii-‘at. Mustaqar means “actual and last dwelling place, mustaw-da’ means “a place where the things are laid up or deposited for some time, central stages; from which the mover has to pass”.

In the previous verses, stress was laid on believing in Holy Qur’aan and obeying its commandments, and it was warned that whosoever will turn away from it; Allah Almighty will give judgment Himself about him on the Day of Resurrection. He is Overcoming on all and the most Powerful, and nothing is hidden from Him.

It is commanded in this verse: The sustenance is provided to all living beings by Allah Almighty and He knows every occurrence of everything’s life. And He is also Aware of last dwelling place of everything. He arranges in advance every such thing; which is necessary for keeping up life of every active thing at every stage. It is evident that the sustenance can be provided by Him only Who is Aware of the condition and present necessity of the needy; and Who has full Power of fulfilling the requirement. He knows “What is necessary for which stage of life”. Not only He has knowledge of everything but from the very first, He has written every occurrence in Lawh Mahfuuz  (the table on which the destinies of the world since its creation are written). Every individual can guess from it about Omnipotence and Knowledge of Allah Almighty, as He knows the condition of every living creature in the world and fulfills their all requirements, in the same way, on the Day of Resurrection, He will cause to arrive every mankind at his last dwelling place after counting his deeds. And there, according to suitability, He will arrange to provide them all necessary things. He will bestow endless blessings to those who deserve rewards. But those who passed their worldly lives in disobedience and infidelity, they will deserve nothing but distress and painful doom.

3b.  And if ye turn away, then I fear for you the retribution of an awful Day. 4.  Unto Allah is your return, and He is Able to do all things. 5.  Beware! They fold up their breasts that they may hide (their thoughts) from Him. Beware! At the very moment when they cover themselves with their clothing, Allah knoweth that which they keep hidden and that which they proclaim. Lo! He is Aware of what is in the breasts (of men).

3b.  Wa  ‘in  tawallaw  fa-‘inniii  ‘akhaafu  ‘alay-kum  ‘Azaaba  Yaw-min  Kabiir. 4.  ‘IlAllaahi  marji-‘ukum.  Wa  Huwa  ‘alaa  kulli  shay-‘in-Qadiir.  5.  ‘Alaaa  ‘innahum  yas-nuuna  suduura-hum  li-yas-takh-fuu  minh.  ‘Alaa  hiina  yas-tag-shuuna  si-yaaba-hum,  ya’-lamu  maa  yusirruuna  wa  maa  yu’-linuun.  ‘Innahuu  ‘Aliimum-  bi-zaatis-suduur.

Commentary

Allah Almighty commands to His last Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) that He should proclaim before the people: Allah is The Paramount Power. You all will return unto Him after death. He has omnipotence over the entire things – can punish; as well as; issue order of punishment also. He is Aware of everything. If you try to hide your matters from Him, it is vain. You are unable to hide anything (even your thoughts) from Him. He knows your good and evil intentions. Whether you cover your bodies with many clothing so that inwardly wickedness may be hidden, it is entirely useless. Allah Almighty knows complete condition of your bodies; moreover, He is also Aware of that which is hidden in your breasts.

Ultimate purpose of Holy Qur’aan

Surah Huud (Hud) - 11

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful                                                         

1.  Alif. Lam. Ra. (This is) a Scripture the Revelations whereof are perfected and then expounded. (It cometh) from One Wise, Aware- 2.  (Saying): Serve none but Allah. Lo! I am unto you from Him a warner and a bringer of good tidings- 3.  And (bidding you): Ask pardon of your Lord and turn to Him repentant; He will cause you to enjoy a goodly provision until a time appointed and He giveth His Bounty unto every bountiful one.

1.  ‘Alif-Laaam-Raa.  Kitaabun  ‘uh-kimat  ‘Aayaa-tuHuu  summa  fussi-lat  mil-ladun  Hakii-min  Khabiir. 2.  ‘Allaa  ta’-buduuu  ‘illAllaah.  ‘Inna-nii  lakum-minHu  nazii-runw-wa  bashiir. 3a.  Wa  ‘anis-tag-firuu  Rabba-kum  summa  tuubuuu  ‘ilay-Hi  yumatti’-kum-mataa-’an  hasa-nan  ‘ilaaa  ‘ajalim-musam-manw-wa  yu’-ti  kulla  zii-  fazlin-  faz-lah.

Commentary

It is commanded that at first, Allah Almighty has proved carefully the verses of Holy Qur’aan in all respect, Who is Aware of every thing and Creator of world’s entire systems. So, you should not worship any other beside Allah Almighty. He commands to His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) that he should say to the people: I am a Messenger of Allah Almighty and have come unto you for causing to hear good tidings to those who worship Him, but frightening to those who are disobedient, that you should beg from Allah Almighty continuously for forgiveness of errors, Who is your Lord, and turn towards Him in all conditions. He will provide you opportunity of reaping advantage satisfactorily from every thing, and whoso will worship Him more carefully, He will give him more remuneration and reward also from His side.
